SEI Bravo lower durability

What's the latest on anyone's experience with the complete Bravo (Std 1" shaft) lowers for $995???

More specifically, has anyone put some HP to these lowers? (Obviously a 1" shaft isn't ideal for HP applications)

There was a lot of forum action years ago about these having gear hardness better and deeper than the factory Merc gears, and Merc gears being hit or miss.

Well, I just purchased a SEI lower, havent this installed it yet. I AM worried about the durability, I running around 550-575 horse on a 29’ single engine Formula. Not sure if I’ll run it or keep it for a backup.

I purchased the one with dual water pickup. I have to figure out a way to plug the upper holes and just use the low water pickup. How can I plug the upper holes without filling them in with epoxy? I’m afraid I’ll void the warranty if I modify it. I want to figure something out that I can easily remove when it blows. Sorry, don’t mean to hijack a thread.

SEI will tell you, 400hp max.

In my experience it's the uppers that always go and that's why SEI doesn't make one.

I purchased a stingray with 502MAG-415 that had the SEI lower installed by previous owner and had 3yrs on it. still ok when I sold it year later.

What he said, except I'd use brass ones.
