Imco scx lower question

hello everyone, I am looking for information if I can install a lower imco scx on an upper bravo 1? I have 2 upper one with the serial number 0W250 + and the other first generation. I am trying to reassemble the upper 0W250 in xr with teague stem I found a liwer imco scx 1.50 -2 I was wondering if I could settle on the upper

I dont think so, it has to be scx to scx but Ive heard you can install a SC lower on a SCX upper with a coupler change, would need a SC lower to mate up with the B 1 upper

Yes you can mount a SCX lower to a bravo upper. Pretty sure you’d need the adapter to connect the two vertical shafts, scx shaft being bigger than the bravo. But why do you want to do this?

i am looking to build a bullet proof outdrive, i live in montreal in canada we have very good outdrive builder but never want to get out of mercruiser santiers and parts are scarce and expensive

If you can mount a sc/bravo lower to a SCX upper, the reverse should be the same. I think I talked to Imco about this at some point. The SCX-4 however is a different bolt pattern and will not work. If you need one of these let me know, I just dug a brand new one, still in the bag out of my tool box the other day. https://imcomarine.com/cal_store/scx-sc-coupler.html

the only thing that worries me is the length of the vertical shaft, this will join my upper shaft

IGetWet 11-22-2020 10:08 AM

Vertical shafts are same lengths, just different diameters.

I’d be doing the opposite... bravo lowers have much less issue than the uppers

Plus SCX lowers aren’t as hydrodynamically efficient

Yea that’s why asked why do this, but if there’s a deal on a lower now, then find a upper or buy a new upper later I get it. The SCX lower on a bravo/sc upper is kind of like my 8yr old wearing on of my size 12 steel toes. But things have to be done in stages and I get that.

You will loose a lot of speed and handling using the SCX lower, a lot like towing a five gallon bucket behind your boat.

This is a really bad set up. The upper is the weak link, not the lower. What you should do is run the SCX upper, and then a Bravo, sport master, or IMCO SC lower. If your Bravo upper is just a standard upper, It is good for about 400 hp and no more. Unless I missed it, what kind of power and boat are you going to be using this on?

I'm going to be running SCX upper and lowers in my Cigarette 39 next year. I have around 825 hp, and I could have probably got away with the sport master lower. Either way, do not put an SCX lower on a bravo upper. Go with the SCX upper if you have over 600 hp.

SCX Lowers will not work on Bravo or SC uppers. The adaptor coupler O.D. is larger than the I.D. of the tower in those uppers.
