I dunno, I think the check ball assembly that goes to the bilge reservoir is in line with the external side vent. Been awhile since I've had mine off to verify.
But the procedure is to fill from bottom until lube comes out the side vent, install it, then pump until fills reservoir.
So seems it would trap air in drive if the check ball is inline with vent screw.
