Well the upper is trashed and metal was sent throughout.
guess it’s decision time now. Looking at like about 18k for a new upper sending the lower to imco for rebuild and a few other parts (helmet, drive reservoir and adaptor for the steering) that’s probably the same as rebuilding and then Buying a spare |
Just spoke to Brad at imco. They make a shaft that fits the scx upper without an adapter. The lower will go back for a rebuild anyway. If that’s the case and the shaft is trashed then I can just get the correct shaft.
At the cost of a rebuild for xr and the sc lower. One more explosion and I could have had a scx. I can keep justifying it but damn it sucks pulling the trigger. |

The new shaft for the lower is needed to use a spacer.
IMCO has their adapter coupler for standard length. |

Spending Money,
Have you spoken to George at All American Drive Service in Michigan? Thanks. Brad. Model Machine and Precision LLC (937)545-8991 having the lower sent out to imco for a rebuild. Still deciding on if the scx is the way to go or if it’s overkill. I don’t believe that the boat is making over 700hp and weight is probably around 4500 pounds. What’s realistic. Do I bite the bullet and just do the scx and not look back? |

I spoke with him at length about a custom drive for my PowerQuest 280. I'm running a 496HO with an M1 ProCharger through a stock B1. That's approx 615HP through a drive rated at 425 in a 4800lb boat. Fortunately, the ProCharger really doesn't kick in any real benefits until the boat is well on a plane and running pretty light. I've also been staying off the fun stick until I can talk the wife into the drive swap, which is frustrating, but saves on repair bills. George explained, in greater detail than I needed or could consume, that he could build a custom drive that would withstand our application for 500+ hrs. I'm sure he could probably do the same for yours for WAY less than you're chewing on. Just a thought. Thanks. Brad. Model Machine and Precision LLC (937)545-8991 |
Well it’s done. Sending a check as a deposit tomorrow for the scx. The sc lower is on its way to imco now.
