How to identify a Bravo 1 Drive??
If anyone could educate me or point me in the direction so I can look things up for myself, I would appreciate it. No experience with I/O and bought a Cig which I was going to convert to outboards, but the purists are against. I have been searching for a pair of Bravo 1's but I have no knowledge on how to determine a Bravo1 from a 2 or from an Alpha etc. I believe the 3's were dual props so that excludes them.
Once I find a Bravo, what should I be looking for. Realistically, if it is not on the boat and open for a sea trial, just a crap shoot without opening it up. So, any tips, assistance etc. would be appreciated. I also saw on FB a guy selling a black 28 Pantera but it has Alpha 2's and allegedly 385 hp per engine. Boat is complete so I don't have a project, which I like, but don't know much about Pantera and everything I read has said Alpha 2's only good for 300 hp, so... Thanks for the replies. |

A 73 probably had Volvos originally. The 280 TRS (with a transmission) didn't come out until 75 or so.

I was just chatting with Luck Strike, this is his 74 with Volvo's and speed master lowers

Very cool
Those were really fast drives, just a little delicate :) |
Looking, I think the best way to get educated about the different drives is to do a google search, there are standard B1 and the newer swept back models, the XR's will handle more power and you are correct the B3's are duo props that are counter rotating, take a look in the classified section under drives you can usually find some there, but be careful who you buy from......
