Why does my alpha one lower unit look different?

Please ignore the skeg damage. It’s a day I don’t wish to relive.

But as I have been researching new props to replace the one I damaged, I noticed that my Alpha one drive looks different from most.

It resembles an SS drive but I don’t think it is one because it doesn’t appear to be short enough, plus it has water pickups and the pics of the SS drives I have seen don’t have the pickups.

it’s a 1990 and mated to a 350 magnum. Any insight anyone can provide, would be appreciated.

How long have you had the boat? It looks to me like someone tried to emulate a Sportsmaster lower unit with a custom fab job...

It’s a standard issue lower with a nose cone added

Nose cone on a Gen 1 Alpha. Like noted above. How fast is the boat? That would probably slow the boat down if it doesn't go over 65.

Thanks for the info. I’ve had the boat since 2000. It’s a 1990 Baja 196ESS. It will GPS around 62 with the right prop
