Volvo Penta DPS to Bravo One

I have a 2002 Volvo Penta DP-SM drive with a seized 8.1 Gi. I’m thinking about doing a complete conversion to a MerCruiser 8.2 and Bravo One Drive on a Cobalt 263. Is the cutout that exists from the Volvo Penta different from a Bravo One?

It looks to be the same cutout based on this thread https://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/...onversion.html

In non performance application, I would likely stick with Volvo, at least on the drive side.

Another vote to keep it Volvo. A Merc conversion is not plug and play and is a waste of $$ for this application. Get a new 8.1 short block and go boating.

Not to pile on the "no vote" but along with converting the drive you'll need to add/change steering, controls, cables, wiring, engine mounts, gauges and glass work to the to do list.

Ok, let’s switch things up. I found a low hour clean MerCruiser 8.2L Magnum. I know the 8.2L MerCruiser is a direct replacement for the 8.1L MerCruiser. Could the 8.2L MerCruiser be used to drop in place of the 8.1L Volvo Penta?
