Flo-Torq for XZ HP500
I switched my drive out for an XZ. This will require a different prop hub as the old shaft was 1 inch. I had been using a solid hub insert with the rubber strips as that is what came with my 25 MP. I see that there is a Flo-Torq rated at 450 HP. My engine is a 502 clone on 5000 lb hull. I really don't hammer it much. The idea of some protection in the event of prop to bottom or prop to floating wood (river use) event seems like a good idea.
Is this the one I need for an XZ drive? It says for stern drives up to 450 HP but only list outboards? I "think" this may just be a cushioning for noise design and not an actual "fuse" in the event of ground strike. https://www.mertenmarine.com/flo-tor...afts-8m0101601 with this prop Mirage Plus 48-13706A46or should I go with a solid hub one with rubber strips for 1 1/4 shaft like I had? https://www.mercruiserparts.com/merc...487-hub-kit-hd Is there an actual replaceable insert design for XZ/XR 1.25 prop shaft? |
I run the solid style one my XZ and XR drives.

After much surfing I arrived (right or wrong) at the conclusion that there is no prop insert that has the plastic piece that is designed to shear in the event of an object strike an ordered the solid metal one with rubber strips. Boat has been on the water for many many years and has yet to ding a prop so I suppose I need not worry anyhow.

I think the concept of the sacrificial goes out the window when you step up to the HP that makes the XZ necessary. That's always been my take on it, anyhow. Thanks. Brad. |

Yes, I found that version as well. It seems that it is functionally the same part as the older version except that is uses an additional nut to fasten it to the prop shaft instead of a cupped washer.
I ordered this on 8M0183487 super to 840389K06 older PN is two washers. https://www.ebay.com/itm/145510277802 |
