B1 propshaft runout, mph, and cost
Subscribea somewhat lengthy post, i apologize.
Fired up the boat on a hose with a bravo 1 getting ready for the long weekend. As someone was watching me put it in and out of gear they said the saw some wobble on the prop. I go back there and look and sure as **** its got some runout. Enough to make the drive jiggle at idle in gear. So either the prop, prop hub, or prop shaft have a wobble. But i dont feel anything while driving besides maybe comming off of idle to plane or at the very top end. But I did my ujoints to take care of that. Haven't water tested since. I was going to have my prop checked out anyway and I will also check the shaft for runout when removed I read somewhere between a maximum of .005 and .010. Ive had the boat for 4 years and never hit anything. My question is will runout/wobble cost any top end speed? I feel like it should have more in it. But i hit 5400ish and it stops seems like it has more. Will wobble/runout increase the chances of prop washout/blowout in the water? I feel like ive had that happen a couple times while owning this thing. Also are there any places that will straighten the shaft and what kind of cost is usually involved if i give them the lower or just the shaft.

Had a bravo 1 prop shaft that had runout in it. Never felt it either. Mechanic saw it during maintenance inspection.
Want to say the prop shaft was around $600 about 5 years ago. And another $250 to put it in.

Notice any difference in speed from before and after?Originally Posted by xlint89

If you see propeller wobble. You have more of a problem than the . 005-.010" deflection.
If you have more than a .003" up/down, side to side movement. You have worn propeller shaft bearings or improper propeller shaft preload.
If you remove the propeller shaft from its carrier. Lay the propeller shaft between two V blocks and while rotating. You have greater than a .007" deflection. You have a bent shaft
That said, you could have .002" up/down movement and .005" deflection in your shaft for a total of .007" and still being spec.
NO! You wouldn't know a performance difference in a .010 run out. You would just wear out your bearing and seal.
Good luck....

My shaft has 0 play besides rotational until it grabs. I have to check the shaft when I pull the prop and see what the shop says about the hub and propOriginally Posted by AmiableDave
