Garmin 740s GPS/Chartplotter
 

Wondering if anyone has any feedback on this unit, I did a search but not too much there, I know it is an older model but seem to be some good deals on them. thanks

Great unit and Livorsi sells colored trim rings for them In addition to using it as a great chartplotter, I converted the digital info buss from my 525 EFIs to display all engine parameters on the 740. Here's link that shows it installed in my boat

+1.. the 740s is a great unit out of the box but is even better with the G2 Vision card. Definitely worth the money..

I just got one, played with it in the store for a while seems good.

I love mine. I have the g2 vision card as well.

I have one with G2 vision card in my Skater, nice unit at a good cost. I have a 5208 in my RIB and except for screen size I would say it is every bit as good. Bonesmalone are you using the smartcraft gateway? If so do you have tabs on 740 display?

West Marine has a one day sale today for the 740s, $699. GREAT DEAL!!

West marine had a sale on them not to long ago. They have become even cheaper than what I paid. I bought mine off of ebay brand new in the box. Never could get one for a decent price until I bid a little lower than I was willing to pay and no one else ever bid on it. The 740 has worked fantastic for me and I am not the most computer friendly person. Love the touch screen. It show tracks, POI, plot your destanation, with the card it has pictures, shows a fish eye type view of the surface and the depth while moving and it will tie in with other equipment. Running Poker Runs in unknown waters it is fantastic. People where following me and they lived there. I didnt know about the colored bezel rings thou. I will be checking that out next. Worth every penny.

I got me one and a Livorsi cover gona put it right here. I did a lot of research before I bought it, seems like the way to go and easy to use. Built in GPS so no antenna to buy. Buy a good transducer to have depth tracking and so you can see the fish trolling @ 120 MPH. be sure to mount the transducer properly.

I have the same dash setup with the old 182 Garmin. How much cutting on the dash did you have to do to make it fit?

just bought my 740 today at the Vancouver Boat show $799 Canadian and a good deal on the g2 vision card...with our dollar dropping that is a good price I think ...cant wait to use it.

I don't think you'll be disappointed. It does way more than most of us go-fast guys will use and it does it without un-needed complexity to the simpler stuff.
