The ability to data log directly from the gateways was part of the original Bluetooth design we scrapped. You may have that same option available with the new Raymarine MFD however. The other choice is a USB connection to the ECM's directly to log.

Trying to get NMEA data on the cheap. OBDII to Bluetooth adapters are 15 bucks (LM32 based) and they make bluetooth serial to TCP/UDP bridge software. Would the relay the NMEA 2000 Canbus codes without monkeying with them, allowing my gauge software to read it? This is more for depth and such than motor, but kidturbo seems to know his stuff...
|
In theory you could take a standard OBD bluetooth adapter, set the correct baud rate, and listen to data on the NMEA bus with a phone or something. However I've never seen it done. It would require custom gauge software as OBD-II and N2k protocols share nothing else in common. Several new chart plotters have bluetooth modems built in, and offer accompany software.
We do have the J1939 to N2k version of the gateways completed if anyone needs them. |

We do have the J1939 to N2k version of the gateways completed if anyone needs them. There are bluetooth serial to TCP/UDP bridges which then allow the android NMEA software to see the canbus streams. Glad to hear you think it will make it out of the OBDII reader, they are cheap enough to toss if it doesn't work. I'll post an update. Anyone with existing NMEA gauges could then have tablet or computer readouts dirt cheap. |

Yeah think I can take care of ya.
Shoot me an email to: |
Email sent.....thank you!

Do you offer or recommend a display I am thinking of ditching all my gauges and doing one large display
|
Simrad and Lowrance units are probably the easiest to configure and have nicest overall gauge layouts. Both are owned by same company and their gauges and menus are very similar. Garmin I find to be a bit more difficult to setup exactly how you want, and page options are less. Raymarine make some beautiful displays, for sail boats... They offer the most options, just not very N2k engine data friendly.
I suggest going to West Marine and playing around with some display models before deciding. That way ya can see how each looks and compare prices. Just tell the rep your most interested in displaying engine data. Those guys know their way through the menus better than most. -K |

Anyway i can run Mercury Vessel View Link through a Simrad with MEFI 4A..??
Sorry, I just haven't played with that protocol at all. But it's possible you could split the canbus signal at ECU and run a N2k gateway over to Simrad, keeping Vessel View network in tack for your other systems. -K |

There is several units out now that will do NMEA or J1939 digital conversion from analog sensors pretty cheap if ya shop around. But all that time and wiring, is better suited for retro fitting a carb engine with digital dash.
Thanks |
Probably best ADC to N2k out there is this one. https://nolandeng.com/rs11.php
Good unit. I've worked with them in the past. |
I agree with Ken ... the Noland unit will work well with a NA engine..
|
Thank you. I just learned a lot tonight. Need to read more.

Mefi3
So I’m a newbie also, to get a digital display/chart plotter to work with mefi3 I would need the nolendeng converter because I’m still analog correct? Any help would be great! 2000 29 fountain with 377 scorpions |

Just noticed it's been 5yrs since delsol talked me into this crazy HEFI gateway project. And the wife was just yelling at me moments ago about the N2k monitors and cables beside my recliner. She is a very patient women...
Seriously it's been a very cool project that's allowed me to meet some great people along the way. Have decoded the canbus data sets to connect all the aftermarket ECM's, along with many of the OEM units so far. Helping people drop all sorts of strange engine configurations into boats. I gets calls from all over the globe now from people doing interesting engine swaps. From LS powered cigs, to BAJA 1000 trucks, wicked air boats, and even flying boats over in Asia. These little boxes have ended up on some pretty cool toys over the past 5 years. Now we are starting work on version 3 with some added features to allow better user configuration, and hopefully get this equipment outa of my living room for good.. Thanks for all the support OSO members. Cheers, -Ken |
Thank you
Thank you for the advice! Made my life a lot simpler! Now to decide witch plotter/gps to use! Thanks again!

Hey Ken , I am interested in one of these, sent you a PM |
Snipers
Are you currently making anything for holley snipper? If so i would love a pair.
QUOTE=kidturbo;4669652]MEFI 3 is pre-canbus design, but there is a guy who make an N2k gateway specially for those MEFI units. Check out fox-marine.com for a list of what gauges his units provide. Besides that, yes the Noland units would be other option for converting analog sensor into N2k data. -K.
|

Have some quick updates on the Holley protocol gateways. Our latest firmware now works with the Holley Standard protocol rather than Racepak. No need change the CANbus settings in the tune file. This also allows for using a Holley display, along side the N2k gateways on the same ECU network. The other benefit to moving away from Racepak, now when you set a Alarm Warning value in the tune file, it directly translates into a N2k Alarm pop up on all your MFD's.
https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...436a271dc3.jpg We have also split this new protocol into two to different layout options. Airboats and Inboards. The Airboat option covers all the basic engine gauges and alarms standard to the HEFI and supported by most MFD's today. For the Inboard option, we settled on covering 3 auxiliary input channels based on customer most requested. Drive Trim, Oil Temp, Water Pressure. These are configured in the ECU tune files Inputs table as before, but now with options to set range alarms on each like above. https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...3efc07c2ab.jpg Last, we found some differences in the data broadcast used on the Sniper setup compared to the HP, Dom, and Termx. So we released a special firmware version that specifically covers the TBI units. Also have a customer exploring the options to add oil pressure senor on the Super version with auxiliary input channels. To anyone running the original Racepak version, and would like to upgrade to the Standard version, shoot me a message including the serial numbers from each gateway, and I'll compile ya a firmware to load the updates. Full details on the N2k PGN list covered now available here. https://marinemods.us/store/index.ph...product_id=125 Cheers -K |
Ken your a genius! That's great news! Looks like I'll be needing another set also...

Very cool! I'm a couple of months away from needing 2.

Dave We do owe this latest HEFI protocol upgrade to the airboat guys running the Terminator ECU's. No Racepak output available now. So I finally had to set down and sort out that original protocol we started with. |
