West Marine portable vhf 160 radio
 

Does anyone have any first hand good/bad experience on the West Marine vhf 160 portable radio?

I need to buy a radio and know that fixed radios are better. Just wondering if this radio is decent for the money, on sale for $100? I would just be using it for emergency calls, hopefully never. I will probably get a fixed radio as well.

I have the model under the one you are considering. Works great. I did have an issue with the battery not taking a charge and West Marine replaced the whole radio, on the spot, no charge. If you can get the model160 for $100 I would grab it!

I picked up the 160 yesterday along with a fixed unit as well. Hopefully I will never need either of them.
