Would like docking lights for my boat
How easy are they to install?
What's a good company? Where is a good place to mount the switch for them |
I love my docking lights! I always come in after dark and wouldn't want it any other way. As far as switch position, I would think its your preference. Add a toggle switch next to others you have like nav, blower, cabin power, bilge.

I like mine. I believe that it was an option well worth the money. Not like one of those over priced options that will never be used. The only thing that I dont like about them, is that around my boating area there are alot of people that think they are head lights. They use them while under way. Some of them are built on the same plate as the nav. lights or in the same sight line. While they are on it makes it difficult to see the color nav. lights. I relation to that, it makes it difficult to determine what direction of travel the boat is moving. I have had a close call with a large party on a slow toon because of this.

I've got them and find them pretty useless to be honest. You should have a couple of "AUX" switches on your Baja from the factory that are avaliable for switchable exhaust, lights, depth finder and such.
|
You could also replace a switch that is a two position with a 3 position, so that way it would be on-off-on instead of on-off. I did this with my courtesy lights and I added underwater lights to them.
|
I have no idea how the Baja is wired to the switch panel but the docking lights are the biggest current draw on the boat. If you add them I'd make sure adequate gauge wire and workmanship is applied.
|
Save your time & money, really pretty useless. I have had 2 boats with them & never really used them. They are illegal to use when under way (in my state)

I prefer a hand held spot light if I need to shine for something at night.
