Flush mounted gps

I am installing a small plotter in my dash, but after thinking about it I am concerend at the viewing angles, standing or sitting. The boat has no top so it's direct sun all the time. Anybody done it and regretted it? Anybody actually removed it because they couldn't see it?

I flush mounted mine on the dash, small lowrance and no problem seeing it in the sun

The answer is its fine flush mounted even in direct south fl sun it's perfectly readable. Only wish I had gone with a bigger display it scrolls really fast.

It's all about the lumen's of the display. Anything marine related is likely high lumen or a monochrome for direct sunlight view-ability. I attempted to use a 10" tablet and phone for nav down there last year. Must have ran aground half dozen times because it was impossible to see either screen in that bright Florida sun.

If you have any questions, wire that puppy up and velcro it to the dash for testing before you drill any holes...

My Samsung Tablet is much brighter in the sun than my Standard Horizon GPS was. Its Bigger Better and Cheaper. Plus I dont have to take cd's with me anymore. Mine is mounted with a suction cup style ram mount. Went to Bimini last year and the suction cup never failed. Flush mounting looks cool but when its time to upgrade then your screwed.

I thought about the tablet but wanted my sounder on the gps screen. Went with a new echomap 50 and with the transducer and g2 vision charts i am in about 400.00. I needed new gauges as well and there wasn't room for the gps in the old panel so it worked out. And when it's time to upgrade Ill make a new panel.
