Speaker advice , JL Audio or MB quart.
I am upgrading/ replacing old 6.5 round in rear of boat. All 4 cockpit speakers powered by JL 150w amp. (Have a class d and jl 10" sub too)
I am thinking JL 7.7 components, the separate tweeter would sorta fit but not awesome. Speakers mounted low facing forward in rear bench area, not ideal but can't change it. I found some mb quart 6x9 Nk1-169 that look nice too but close to $200 a set. They make a cheaper nfk692 that are below $100. I know people used to love mb quart stuff but not sure about now since they got sold couple times. |
MB Quart is a shell of what they used to be. I'd stick with the JL stuff. Which amp are you running? Those 7.7's like power so if you're getting 150/channel it would be good, but of it's 150 split for ways, not so much. Also you're just replacing the 2 rear speakers? Or are you replacing the fronts too?

They make 2 versions of the 7.7 one is much more power hungry than the others if yoy can fit the new 8.8 , ther are a huge upgrade. They are however power hungry and are expensive . They would be bad ass mounted under the bench with a 600 watt amp

MB Quart used to be the %&*# but as stated above unfortunately are not what they used to be... I have all old school German made MB Quarts in our boat (and two of my trucks as well) and they are awesome. Of course back then there was no such thing as JL 7.7's and JL 8.8s so to me that's pretty exciting. If I was forced to buy new, I would do the JL marine but have heard some good things about Wet Sounds as well.

for sound quality JL, if you want everybody else to hear you, then go Wetsounds.....I like both and both are at the top of the marine audio equipment, just different strokes for different folks. I also agree that if you can fit he 8.8's under the rear bench and can power them, they are well worth the expense and will add a significant amount of midbass to your system. Also if you go Wetsounds I would recommend doing the XS808's, again the midbass from the 8" speakers is night and day better than the 6.5" speakers. The JL 8.8's for the rear with M 7.7's in the front, running of 200/channel on the JL 800/8 amps are a really good combination.

Kicker has nice marine speakers. Im running 4, 8 inchers. They really pound. Titainium tweeters and Leds in em too. 150wrms to all 4 and can hear them no prob at speed. They make 6.5s too. check em out

jl had both .. mb is a thing of the past ......

MB was a great speaker but my understanding is they where bought out several times and now owned by a company out of China, very poor product and customer support. I replaced my Clarions with Wet Sounds and if you don't want to spend that much look at Alpine.

Went with JL 7.7 coaxial. Found the component version for not a ton more $$ but mounting for separate tweeter wasn't gonna be super clean so decided to go coaxial route.
