ABS cover/enclosure for rear of speakers
 

I have some 7.7 jL audio speakers mounted in forward facing wall of rear bench seat along with a free air sub mounted in the center of same area. . I am fairly happy with the setup but recently wondered if the sub effects the speakers since they are mounted in same region. The compartment in rear seat and is about 30cu before cooler and crap go in it. Would abs covers like these help isolate the full ranges speakers from getting effects from sub?

Would not be a bad idea. One that will help with the sub causing distortion in the 7.7. Having a small enclosure for those speakers will also help in mid bass response.

Most JL 7.7 are meant to be mounted in free air and those enclosures will kill the sound. JL does make a 7.7 that goes in a tight wake board tower enclosure but i doubt that is what you have. I do agree the sub may be affecting the 7.7 but you may just have to live with it. Other option is to enclose the sub if you have the room but may not sound as good either.

I do not have the enclosure version of the 7.7. I also don't have the room to enclosure the sub so I guess what I got is what I got. The ask everyone for the advise.

Unplug the 7.7s and fire up the system . If you can see the cones of the 7.7s moving on bass notes , congrats. You are one of the few with a properly sealed bench. If not , go ahead and reverse the polarity on the sub with all speakers hooked up and see if it sounds better to you that way

I would check via unplugging as airjunky described. I bet you will see/feel movement in which case the enclosure should help minimize the effect of air movement on the component speaker.
There will be no negative impact to the standard "free air" speaker by putting it in an enclosure and as nightlife mentioned, should increase midbass response.
A "free air" speaker like the standard JL has a more rigid spider than the tower can enclosure model. This extra rigidity is what allows it to operate safely without the air from the sealed can enclosure pushing back, limiting cone movement.

Usually the enclosure model will be more efficient than a similar free air and play louder with greater excursion. Interestingly, JL ADVERTISES both having the same performance specs.

10" sonotube from home depot .it will be coated with wax , but its cheap and quick.seal it front and back .make your enclosure with it as you see fit ,use it as a pre waxed mold for custom sized enclosure if u like.make sure your 7.7s are actually sealed to the face of the fiberglass .(many are not ) if you can get 2 or 3 liters of sealed volume behind those jl's they will come alive . Even with moderate power. Dont be afraid to use polyfill if your boat doesnt see real wet interior conditions.
