Stereo Question - Fade control of speakers
 

My boat has front, mid, and rear speaker pairs. All pushed with a (JL Audio M600/6 3/4/5/6 channel) amp. When I fade sound to rear, it silences sound to the fronts AND mids (mids are in the cockpit area, not the cabin with the fronts). My question, is it a simple Y connection that is needed into the amp to fix this? When I fade rear, I want the mids and rears on, only the fronts to silent. Thanks.

My guess is your receiver has just 2 pair rca's out - as most do, and you have the frt and mids Y'd with rca's. Looks like you want the front's by themselves and the mid/rears Y'd.

its the standard clarion head for Baja, so yes, believe you are correct with the 2 pair of RCA's out. I know the rear and mids are not Y'd behind the head unit, must be at the amp with the fronts independent. All 6 channels being used. since this is a 6 channel amp, presume the two subs are powered by their own 2 channel amp. I need to look.

Or, like many boats, cabin speakers are driven by the head unit. Front on Fader.

So, your head unit probably is using frt RCA's for the mid section and the rear RCA's for the rear section.

The 6 channel amp could be powering your 4 cockpit speakers (mid + rear) and last 2 chneels driving the subs.

This is a very likely scenario.

So, yes, you need to check how it was wired - there are a few different possibilities.
