best way to wire dvc subs
im installing a new sound system in my boat
have 2 jl audio 400/4 amps going to 2-12" dvc subs and 6 6x9s ? is what is best way/sound to wire the subs radio has L&R ouputs for subs and set amp at low imp and going to use 2 channels on the amp for subs other 2 for 6x9 s if wire the dual voice coil subs separately as L&R parallel to both coils that takes them to 2 ohm in series to both coils goes to 8 ohms' to 1 coil only stays 4 ohms but will it sound good only using 1 coil if bridge the 2 channels at amp and wire both speakers together in series will stay 4 ohms just trying to wire for best clarity for power I have |
Wire both subs to 2 ohms and run one on each channel. Some 4 channel amps have a pair of channels for mid/highs and 2 channels for lows so double check that to determine which channels you are going to use.

tks
at 2 ohms separately the amp gives its full 100 rms watts to them was just making sure best way for the power I have to them for best sound I have the new jl audio xd400/4v2 amps all 4 channels adjustable for subs |
100 watts is probably no where near enough power. What is the RMS power requirements of the sub? That is only 50 watts per voice coil. I don't know of any JL sub that, that will be enough power.

If that xd is regulated i would try 2 ohms first . Kind of a odd set up your working with there . 12w6 0r 7 prob need to get a worthy sub amp . Polk or some other dvc subs expediment. Most wont condone running seperate voice coils from seperate channels. Jls unregulated amps can draw some amps and get sloppy at 2 ohms .
you could always put your xd on 6x9s and get a class d mono for these subs of yours. If they are 3 ohm w6 or7 series get a750.1or 1000.1 and dont look back .unless you have 2 120 amp alts on this boat of yours. |
Or just bridge your xd into a 2 ch into 2 2 ohm subs and see if it makes you happy . Seal the dog doo out of what im imagining is a bench seat . Put bright light in the seat at night and seal until you see no light come out the front sides or where seat bottom rests on lower structure

yes im limited on battery power
2 400s and another sub amp will be a lot for my set up I have triple 260+hp 2.5 offshores on this little 27 ex the racing ignitions are only 16 amps I have the 3 motors running on 2 27 series agm batterys I knew boat needed ballast in front so I had a 30 gallon fuel tank made down in front v with a 12gpm transfer pump to move weight around and another deep cycle 31 series agm battery up there just for stereo only,,,,,nothing else tied on it and a battery switch to separate from 2 others so when motors not running switch off to the 1 only battery on radio so not to kill the motor batterys what I have is 2 jl 400/4s 2 jl 360/4s and did buy polk audio speakers db1240 woofers are 360rms and 720 max 6 6x9 100 rms I can bridge the 1 400 to 2 channel for subs and just use 4 6x9 but I was thinking using the 6 6x9 and just putting a little power to the subs for now to see how long the 1 battery last when motors are off with the 2 amps yea I don't have the luxury of big alternators so open to all suggestioins would like the small cockpit to rock as good as boat scoots 2 subs are under dash in the vertical boxes on gunnels for wiring and hoses all sealed 2 6x9s under there also cutting in 2 more in side panels beside rear bench and 2 more in bottom of rear bench will a dvc woofer sound ok on just 1 power input to 1 coil only? here is pic of how small I have to work with only 5'5" between winshield with no front birth just carpet straight dash no cabin door |
Damn how fast is that thing?

Those polk dvc subs are flexible , they will self destruct real quickly in a bad install though. Wire at 1 4ohm coil for
minimum amp draw. if you can move from that 400/4 to a 500.1 for subs it would be better on alts (or stators)and louder . |
I think you need to sell your amps and find some different ones. You can find JL 600/6 for around $400 and find a 500/1 for the two subs. You are wanting a similar setup as I have. I think different amps is what you are going to need.
