GPS/Chartplotter options
What is the best bang for the buck for plotters in the 600ish dollar range? I'm looking a SIMRAD, like the one below. The gps/plotter is more important to me than the fish finder but I do like to know depth and see the bottom. I'd be putting the transducer in the hull, using it as a shoot thru. I want a 7 inch touchscreen style.
Any opinions? Thanks http://www.cabelas.com/product/boati...Tz_stype%3DGNU |
I would look into the Garmin units...

I just purchased the Garmin EchoMap 73dv for $424 at Bass Pro Shops, includes a transducer but I plan on buying a thru hull unit to use. 7" display and includes Lakes Maps.

Just bought and installed the Simrad GO7 this weekend. $549 from west marine. User friendly to set up and looking forward to using next weekend. My buddy (who's big into fishing on the bay) was so impressed, he got one as well and loves it. He was a big Garmin fan prior. Food for thought... good luck!

I ended up going with the SIMRAD GO7 XSE with the totalscan/side scan transducer. I like that its all touch button and with the 7 inch screen the unit is only 8 inches wide which is good for my space restricted dash. I panel mounted it in place of my mph gauge (moved tachs outward to each side of the unit). I used it saturday and worked great. I haven't i put the transducer in yet though.

I just got a Garmin 547. I haven't had a chance to try it in the Velocity but did set it up using a jumper battery. Nice screen, 5 inch diagonal and easy to read. I would have gone bigger but wouldn't fit in the dash. Replacing a old Garmin 192. You can't go wrong with a Garmin, IMO.

Got my 547 installed over the weekend. Works great and easy to see in direct sunlight. Controls are very intuitive, I think I will like this unit.
