I thought my connections would have to be at the engines but this is just info from reading and I am not versed in this NMEA system at all. I will have to start digging under the dash and see what I come up with. If everything goes right with this I want to put a second G05 above the glove box. Once this 1st set-up is all done I can just T into the backbone and it works as a duplicate display, in theory at least.

Pretty sure the Merc system view reads "CAN" data, where most MFD's read NMEA2K. That's why you need the gateway to convert CAN to NMEA2k.

Hope you're doing good buddy!

sorry for the delay.

Hi

The SmartCraft NMEA Gateway was a clean option to allow most of the engine CAN data to be read on the Garmin devices. It does not "translate" all CAN data but does a good job for most data. I cannot for example get engine error codes to display on the Garmin Chart Plotter. But I am very impressed by how cleanly the Garmin integrates engine data into the displays. I'm still getting used to the post process here so I had some relays stack up. Again sorry to have delay responding.

Take Care
Vince

I figured out I need to get on doing this install! Had to demo a kitchen & bath in a rental that we bought in "move-in" condition, well....you know how that goes. Will get back to the boat 1 st week of April.

Connecting three engines together for use with NMEA Gateway

Hi all,

I see this is an old post but it's worth a try!

I am UK Based and have a 2009 43RS Hunton with triple CMD (Cummins Mercury) diesels which are wired completely independently to each other.
Each engine has it's own Smartcraft 6 way junction box at the helm with various analogue gauges each (Oil pressureX3, water tempX3, VoltageX3, RevsX3 drive trimX3).
Currently I can plug in the NMEA gateway (Mercury-Mercruiser 98-8M0151748 GATEWAY-CAN P MUL) into any of the 3 engines J-Boxes and receive that engine's data via NMEA on my Garmin Plotter.

What i would like to do is link the three engines together so that I can see all three engines at the same time.
Each engine is currently configured as starboard 'Master' via the 4 way jumper block on the engine so I believe starboard will remain as Master and then the other will become Slave Port and Slave Port(or starboard) inner via setting the jumper position.

What I don't know is how to link the three engines together as I get conflicting information on how to do it.

I thought that I needed just two dual engine 10 way jumper harnesses at the Helm J-Boxes....

But I have seen diagrams that indicate other connections might need to be made at the other end of the wiring harnesses see here:
Https:// www. drev.se/Upload/DocumentManager/mercruiser/smartwire.pdf sorry can't post links yet!
Also different resistors maybe required.

Here is hoping someone can help!

thanks in advance
