recessed speaker enclosures for gunnel

where to find or who makes/sales
recessed speaker inserts/enclosures that can cut into the gunnels
seen 1 I really liked had 7-8" round speeker recessd in at an angle
and flat spot on bottom had cup holders cut in
install looked really clean and nice
saw another version had led lights on the insert mounting flange against the upholstery
instead of just mounting speaker sticking out on gunnel upholstry

johnmiffco 07-31-2018 01:43 PM

I did find the ssi online catalog and they make lots of different storage and resessed panels,,,,
thanks for the lead,,,,,
got a starting point as the 1 teardrop looks ok
already looked at great lake skipper so tks for lead
with all these new hulls with inlays would guess somebodys making them in fiberglass over the molded plastic
don't know how plastic will hold up in the gulf,,,,

If someone is making them out of fiberglass, then its probably done in-house at the factory where the boat is being made...plastic is easy to injection mold and make is large quantities and fast....as far as durability...it depends on what the material is and if they have UV stabilizers in the plastic to keep it from breaking down....but the same can be said for hand laid fiberglass...in the end with proper maintenance you can get either one to last just as long and look good...ignore/abuse it and either one will look like crap just as fast too ;)

understand completey
I have a commercial fiberglass shop,,,,
yrs making molded parts for ships, chem plants, rigs, ect and made many raceboats
so know lay up and usage
just asked for glass as know very well the life of molded plastic parts in the sun and pounding of waves
rather find a pre made part than mold up my own,,,,lol lots of time and mat saved if find a pre made I like
tks

it would probably be faster and heavier duty if you made your own...then you have it done the way you want instead of compromising on whats available out there :)
