What is the best router these days.
I have a surveillance system on my barn that can be connected to the internet. The barn is 200 ft away from my router. Who makes a router and wireless bridge to work over this distance.
Or is there a better way to go.

You have electric service in the barn that goes to the house ?

If so,maybe look into Powerline Networking. This sends signals thru your powerlines.

Yeah I looked into that but the tech at BEST BUY said it might or might not work.
They are on the same service. ( power for the barn comes from the house)

I ran a cat/network cable to my garage and setup router as a bridge. Another option is contact your favorite company, I like Linksys/cisco and inquire about the commercial/business grade routers which have more power for longer distances.

The only conduit I have going to the barn is the 1 inch power feed for the barn. I thought about running a cat 5 cable inside that but figured I would get a LOT of hum from the power cables.
No way to run a new conduit since the conduit would have to run 50 ft diagonally under my driveway. three stall garage at house and driveway from the house to the barn.

Ive been very happy with my Ubiquit equipment. Great price point for enterprise grade equipment. The only downfall is that its not designed for easy consumer installation / setup, though with a bit of research and tinkering I was able to dial my network in just fine.

I think the Powerline will work. And its cheap. If it does not work then send it back to amazon.

I tried the powerline deal to get internet to my shed on my beach.
IF I set up the adapter in the house to an outlet connected to the same circuit that ran to the shed it worked well.
BUT...getting a cable from where my router was set up wasn't happening, wasn't going to tear drywall to do this.
For a trial I left cable across the floor and it did good at the shed.
If I used any other outlets that weren't on same circuit that ran down to beach, it wouldn't function.
I tried a couple "repeater" type extenders, but with my limited knowledge of networking, I wasn't able to get that set up good enough to stretch.
Placed it in my garage which was midway between where the router sat in the house and the shed.
Ended up getting a better router a while later in the house.
It had better signal and range.
I had a home entertainment center in my shed and could watch video through the apps on that.
I am sure that an repeater/extender set up would be best, maybe a couple depending on distance.
Just have to know more about I.P. addresses and set up than I do myself.
The range extenders I got were cheap enough that I didn't mind experimenting.
