The Blue Water switches are 15 amp max. A starter relay should solve your issue.

The starter relay is already there, its called the slave relay, he needs a main power relay (Red/Purple to Purple) connection
Many of the cruisers place a key switch inside the cabin which sends power to the helm. My self I like the hidden kill switch, and I would place it on the Red/Purple (main power feed) |

The purple should be energized when the ignition switch is operated. The yellow/red should be energized when the start switch is energized, operating the starter solenoid, that’s a 16ga wire max and I can’t see that drawing more than 15A. Those are the blue water switches correct? It’s either wiring in the boat or bad switches or the design of the switch. Maybe you could try one for a start switch on another boat. Start only not ignition and start.

For those of you using the start buttons are you still using a key elsewhere?

I use the Mercruiser Ouick Stop Switch for ignition on and a Start Switch from ebay. Works fine on my 525efi`s. |
