28 TD Single

I am considering buying a 28 TD single engine blower motor Eliminator. Everything I have read from this chat site has frowned upon this setup. I respect experiences and insight. If this boat is just not right, well so be it. However, if our goal is to have a cat that will run 80mph, have room for family and friends, be reliable, and cost around 70K, would this boat be an option?

Would consider a 26 or 27 as well. The used canopy cats seem to be overpriced presently. A 26-28 single engine cat is really what we're interested in. Any insight on this setup would be appreciated.

Maybe interested. I believe I read post from you that you had planing problems with this boat. 1.36 drive ratio, was that the problem? Did you change prop pitch or is that just a characteristic of this setup?

changed props to a labbed 24 . Worked great. The stock 26 took for ever to get on plane when loaded with people and fuel.

the 26 has more room in the cockpit then the 28 or 27 daytonas. Not as much freeboard as the 28 though. The 26 is alot more single engin friendly. we have 3 26' daytona's in stock,2 28's and 3 27's. starting at 70k.

RJBBC:

I have a 28 TD with twin I/O. IMO the 28TD is just too big of a boat for a single engine. Add a blower motor to it and you're asking for a lot of drive problems because the 28's can step over some water.

Before this boat I had a 26 Carrera cat with single and big power. Carrera's are pretty big boats for their "class". A 28TD is A LOT bigger and I wouldn't personally go any larger than a 26 on a single.

Hope this helps, good luck.

There are currently two great looking 28 TD single engine blower motor boats posted on the OSO classifieds. What does stepping over water mean? Are drive problems inevitable with this setup, regardless of mods on the drive? I'm really searching for any positive experiences with this setup.
