What Do You Use for GPS?

Since all of my previous boats were large cruisers, we had lots of room for fixed mounted GPS/Chart Plotters. I do plan to use my 2007 28 Daytona to shoot across Lake Ontario and am looking for a GPS/Chartplotter solution. I was thinking of just going the handheld route - ideally one that had a small mounting bracket that I could plop it on there when I needed it.

Have you guys found anything that works ideal for these boats?

I've been using a Raymarine RC400.. Its has many of the same features as the larger ones, It uses map cards , has a color display & has battery power as well.. The nice thing is it's compact.. It is about the 4' x 5" & 1.5" thick.. It's just big enough to see underway & small enough to fit small dashes or dash space.. It cam with a mount, but its so light I held mine on with HD velcro.. This way I didnt have to bugger up my dash for when I get annother boat & sell this one.. :) It held on just fine @ 70+ in the last poker run we did too! There are probably others similar out there as well to, but I have been happy with this one.. Jamie / Lakeside

Tha'ts exactly the one my research bubbled to the top - unforutnately RayMarine discontinued this model now.

It looked perfect for our application.

I am looking at the Garmin and Magellan alternatives now.

Thanks for the posting.
