27 Daytona drive question

Currently running a Bravo 1 and wish to add a Sportmaster lower.Do i use standard length or shorter? It is a 06 model. What will be the advantages other than the nose cone if any.Stronger? Will it mate to a standard Bravo upper?Anyone have one for sale? Thanks

Hey buddy,Merry Christmas. You still got that boat?Yeah stock Bravo 1.Started out with a 502, Weiand blower, about 530hp.Now a bigger blower, superchiller, few other changes, about 630hp.Still with the stock Bravo 1.Trouble is i have 2 other new stock Bravo 1's as spares. No trouble yet, taking it easy, only 16hrs.What size shorty is yours?I will needto upgrade as the real engine is currently being built.Should be 900hp.Should have just mailed you on the drive question.Carl.

2" shorty depending on the roughness of the water. but why waste the money on the shorty just get a Bmax and be done with it.

Re: 27 Daytona drive question

Is a Bmax the same length?Where i boat it is never like a lake. Will a Bmax fit to the Bravo transom? What sort of cost?Any input appreciated.

Re: 27 Daytona drive question

The bmax is available in standard and shorty versions.Bmax bolts up to Bravo. Cost is anywhere from $5500 used to $12K new. they are designed to live up to 1000hp. Check out www.bravoshop.com for more info.

2 INCH SHORTTIE WILL WORK FINE AND PUT AT LEAST 5 MPH ON A BLOWER MOTOR, WE HAVE SEEN 4 TO 5 MPH DIFFERENCE ON 525s, GOING TOA 2 INCH SHORTTIE, WITH NO ISSUES OF BLOW OUT OR GETTING ON PLANE IT HAS BECOME THE STANDARD DRIVE OF CHOICE FOR ALL ELIMINATOR CATS.

Ps Nose Cone, Dont Bother The Hydrodynamics Are So Good A Nose Cone Cant Out-performe A Factory Speedmaster Case.

What ratio in the shorty would you guys recommend?Does the shorty mate to a stock Bravo upper?

Re: 27 Daytona drive question

Relating to the above. What upper ratio should i be running? From what i understand using a 1.65:1 will result in a faster top speed and using a prop above 32" pitch decreases efficiency in a Bravo style drive.I will have about 800HP so should i use a 1.5 or a 1.36 and prop accordingly? Is speed affected by gear ratio? Will a boat with a 1.5 ratio spinning a 30 pitch prop have the same top end as the same boat with a 1.36 and a 26 pitch prop?Assuming both are propped for the same RPM.

Seems like the math makes a 1.5/1.35 change more like bumping 2" of pitch. I'd try the 1.5 with a good 5 blade myself, but 1.36 should be fine. I'd use wichever comes first that you get a deal on.

Cat- how does one get a 2" shorty without a nosecone style lower for a Bravo?

I'd be leery of a std water pickup or dual WP on a high x single cat- either way- the upper holes would be open in fast conditions and cooling water to the engine or drive would be compromised

Thats a decent slip, my 25 Daytona with 1.5 shorty, labbed 28, 1.36 gear was on the rev limiter at 93-94, 5400 rpm

Re: 27 Daytona drive question

Is it true that its more efficient to turn a bigger prop slower than a smaller prop faster or does gearing play no part in top end speed?Jeremy what ratio is your XR?
