Looking at a 28 with no motor and BMAX

A friend of mine is looking a a 28 TD with no motor. Thinking about an 800 hp procharger motor. The main concerns are balance of the boat front to rear and low speed spray and handling 35-45 mph. Doesnt want a "dog"down low. Anyone on here or know of someone that has one or knows that he can talk to?

a single 28 is great as lond as its a low deck. The tall decks are very heavy causing problems with drives. The td needs to be twins.

Ive heard the same thing. tall decks need twins. I think thats why they dont put out any new tall decks with a single. Ive noticed allot of older 28 tall decks and you never see them with 496,500, its allways a teague 800 or big blower motor which tells you all that power is needed to push it around. Then they blow up outdrives. Maybe its a good price?????

Yeah big motor and the best drive you can get...

The guy lives close and wants to trade hence the question. A lot of boating is done at loto and the water gets rough. Likes the bigger cabin also. Any owners out there?

stangjeeper 03-19-2007 06:02 PM

as stated above.. if its a tall deck with a single its gonna need lots of power. With lower power under 700hp it will be hard to get it on plane and itll be a dog.

A pair of 600 hp will get a TD over 100 no problem. If driven right, XRs or XZs will last quite a while, just make sure you check the bearings and gears every 50 - 100 hours or have drive temp gauges.

It will spray over the front in rough water under 55 mph, it really likes 75 to get up on top.

If you're going with a single, get a Konrad or #6.

Seems like the first post is implying it's a single hull. If I was concerned about performance in the 30-45 range I would not be looking at cats at all- awkward/rough speed for most all of them. One thing to slow down to that on occasion as conditions dictate- but if you're gonna spend a lot of time there...... a good v-hull is where it's at:drink:

I agree with Ken if you want to go 30-45 don't get a cat. Check out my 28 in the classifieds its a great deal! $84,900!

Ken how is that 30' working out what have you had it up to so far??

Only a few hrs on it last yr, setup is/was off but did 88 gps. Just put 1" shorties on and borrowed some 32" 5 blades, I've got 1.5 ratio. I've got 30" 5 blades but have not run them with the shorties- it likes the 5 blades:) planes way easier and cruise speed is much improved:D

I have a 33 Daytona for sale that I would sell less engines. Has B Max's on it also.

yeah 5 blades are awesome I get 2mpg going 70! Hopefully you will get 95 MPH with that setup maybe a little more.

Assuming td Is a tall deck cat . You really should go twins. If its a first cat I will tell you they are very odd handling at low speeds compared to a v hull. The boat in my opinion is to heavy for a single and he will have drive issues unless he goes #6. We are going to horizonspoker run in oklahoma and hes going to have a 28 TD 30, 33 there we are also looking at a 28-30 agian. cuddy kind of sucks compared to the 30. Is this for Greg?
