27 Daytona owners

Hey guys,

I thought I would check with a few of you and see what kind of speed and drive set-ups you have. The reason is: I have an Out of State customer with an 05 27 Daytona/Whipple 525. The boat was set up originally with a 2" short sportmaster and the engine was installed 1" high from the factory:( .

As soon is this boat starts to run over 85 mph, the prop starts to gradually blow out. It also blows out bad going on plane. At top speed with a 30 lab, the slip is over 13%!

I would love to hear about some factual set-ups from you guys, so my customer does not waste his money on drives, spacers, props, etc............................I think all of you will agree,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,first thing: The drive needs to come down!

Sell me the whipple and all things should correct themselves.:evilb:

1 inch shorty Imco Extreme, 1.25 gear 30 pich prop turning 6400rpm, 10% slip with the prop we are running currently. You can figure speed, would rather not say for insurance purposes. The faster you run the more the slip seems to increase. 7 %seems to be a good number for these hulls thats were they should be when everything is right although I have seen better.
I could not run a 2'' shorty on my boat because it was to high. We are currenty going to try adding a 1'' spacer to see if it helps our slip%.

gsmith9898 I have quadrotor for sale if you interested Cheap!

Thanks,

Yah, It's pretty bizarre that the boat was built with the X dimension 1" high to begin with, and then the 2" shorty was added. I would really like to see how it runs when the drive is down a little deeper. The lab props seem to be working ok for you guys?

What is the make of the prop your running? If it is a Bravo I remember to use 29P not 30P. Also with your drive that high you are really set up for a 5B propeller rather than a 4B. You should try a 5B and post your data.
