Imco or not

I'm triying to find out if a 2inch Imco shorty drive will work on a 22ft Daytona? What I do know is the Bravo 1 drive is sitting as high on the transom as possible an the prop shaft is 5" lower than the lowest point of the haul. I called Eliminator and Imco they both told me the same thing (IT MIGHT WORK) I was looking for a better response than that . I built a zz502 with about 525hp an she runs 84mph on gps with a 26 four blade Bravo prop. I'm shure some one has tried this before .

What year model 22 do you have. I had an 03 and now have a 07. My 03 ( old body style) had a 496 ho with a bravo 1. The drive was mounted above the rub rail. The rub rail stopped against the sides of the upper drive. I ran a labbed 28 to 82mph with a light load of fuel and some chop on the lake. It always ran 80 mph even with 4 people. The 03 planed out terrible. I added some Dana fixed tabs but it still sucked with 4 people in the boat.
The 07 has a 496ho and a xr with a sport master that is 2" shorter. It also planes like crap. It runs 80 with a non labbed 28. The load does not seam to effect the new hull as much. I am building a forged bottom end whipple charged 496 ho as we speak. I am hoping for high 90s.
To finally try to answer your question, I think these hulls pick up speed with a shorter drive but, they suck to get on plane. I have a 2" drive spacer to try when I get the engine back in the boat. I will try it both ways and see if I lose any speed with 2" more drive in the water. I dont want to add tabs to this one.
Here is a pic of the back of the old Daytona. You can see if yours is mounted this high. I also tryed a planning fin on the drive that really helped low speed but, everyone told me they would not run it over about 80mph. I ran it to 82mph. I hope this helps.

My hual is 1997 but the set up on the 03 that you had looks just like mine. When you compare your prop size an your speed with a 496 hp? and my 26 pitch prop with a 502 502hp at 5400 rpms somthing just don't seem right.

I was thinking the same thing. A 26 bravo on my boat would go to the rev limiter at about 78mph. The 26 was labbed. The labbed 28 turned about 5000 or so at 80. My conditions had to be perfect to get 82. The new boat I have was a demo and it is reported to have run 84 with a labbed prop. I have not started working on props yet untill the new motor is in and complete.
I think you should work the prop and not the drive. That 502/502 should turn 5800 if I am not mistaken. That extra 400rpm will pick you up 4 to 5 miles per hour. The 496ho was limited to 5100.

To turn that 502 5800rpm I would have to lower the pitch by two it seems like I'm going the wrong way.The reason I stopped at 5400 rpm the graph on the motor shows the motor leveling out at 502 hp at 5200rpm thru 5800. You are right though zz502 max rpm is 5800. There are a few other things I'm going to try this winter I'm going to port match heads, intake, exhaust new ignition an a single plane intake I hope that helps a little.

The reason they did not say it would work is you would be mad at them if you tried it and it did not work.

I think 5" below the outside sponson is too low. I am running mine 1/2 above, no problem with planing but I have a standoff box and my bottom is dfferent. I picked up 8 mph by installing the short. There are a lot of options for props now, 5 blade, 6 blade. If you are having problem planing out maybe a 5 or 6 blade may be your answer when you raise the prop.
