24 Daytona with twins, project "Cobra"
I have started a project with a restoration of a 24 Daytona I bought. Here are some "before" pics.

Getting fresh power, Mercury alien cowls, all new interior that will be much different with bolsters in the back seat, headrests and grap handles, tall buckets up front and an all new paint scheme similar to a Ford GT red with white stripe. The Ford Cobra logo also.

The boat is in primer now. Interior will done in a few weeks. Tall front buckets that are going in the boat. I removed the four front cuddy windows and the side vents in back. They dated the boat. Fiberglass work and they disappear!

I was so close to buying this boat two years ago. Definately needs some graphic and interior work but the motors should be solid. I think i still have all the paperwork on what he spent on the motors at my house. I figured once the economy picked back up, or got a little more stable it would try to get it. Cant wait to see what you do with it!

One engine was blown, overheated and stuck a piston and a rod let go. Real mess. Here is the inspiration for the paint.
Guess it had a rough summer! But we all know that speed kills, motors and drives especially. That design should look great on the hull, especially in the water. How was his transom repair? That was the big iffy for me. From all the pics he sent it looked good, but being so far away it was a little scary.
It was the bottom at the transom that had problems. That is common on older Eliminators. The glass repair work was very nice. The rigging is first class. Sould have the boat done in a few weeks. I will post more pics.
Cool project. What power are you going back with?
Fresh 260's with digital ECU's. I like the snap of the 2.5's. We boat on smaller lakes and there is nothing better than going zero to 100 very quickly. Small 28 pitch props and buzz the engines.
Brad, you should look into speedmaster drives. I had one on my last allison. Direct drive, turning a 10" prop on a S3000 motor with 280 lbs of compression. I want to talk about making some noise coming out of the hole, plus there is nothing more stable on high speed passes. Just sucks bc no reverse!
This is a pleasure boat. 110 mph is enough for what I want to do. The Speedmaster are really only good on race boats. Really hard to not have reverse or neutral for that matter on a 24' boat.
youve got neat toys

Red base coat paint today. The color is much different with clear and in the sun. Basecoat looks flat and very dark without clear coat. More taping for the next color hopefully soon. The setback plates are painted to match.

Painted the white stripes today. Clear coat next and then the colors will be glossy and brighter.

Sharp looking boat, just one more to add to your long list of "chain smokers". :ernaehrung004:

Clear coated and buffed. Windshield painted Mercury black to match the outboards. Powerheads are being rebuilt and the interior should be done very soon. Next is to install the gauges, trim indicators, the all new interior (not recovered but all new very modern).

that is so cool! nice job brad!
Looking for something alittle realistic for the chain?????Thought the skater was supposed to be your cruiser. HAHA just kindin you have to many cool projects Brad!
I have more fun in the small boats. A 24 Daytona on the Chain-O-Lakes is like a being on Lake Michigan. The Skater was boring on the local lakes and I have the bigger boat for big water. Plus the bonus is this 24 light weight Daytona with two hopped up O/Bs will be a rocket.
Had some realistic vinyl Cobra emblems made.
Just waiting for the back seat and hatch to be completed. http://i41.tinypic.com/2hnxlyx.jpg |
did you sell this? my friend called me and thinks he saw it in eastern washington/ northern Idaho today.
That is the the boat. It was sold a few days ago and was going to northern Idaho on some large 26 mile lake up there. Preist Lake I think he said. He left Illinois Wed and should have arrived Friday. Beautiful boat and I hope Bill and his wife enjoy it.
