ya I would call around to some big name insurence companys first you would be suprised, I know a guy with a 28 daytona that only pays $850 a year, but then another with a 28 daytona with big power pays $5200, just shop shop shop!! talk to every insurnce company until you find the right one. Maybe try calling agents in havasu since there is a ton of eliminators down there.

Exact reason why i bought a 496 boat , i pay 800 annual for year round coverage

I pay $4900 a year for a 2006 28' Daytona with 525's so that sounds about right. I'd be a little concerned that the company doesn't know what they are insuring if it was a lot less than that.

It depends on your carrier, area and experience. From what I have seen some of the bigger companies cover some of the smaller power boats (496) under auto policies that are cheaper. I would recommend reading the fine print on those so you know what you are getting. The true marine policies such as Markel and American Reliable are going to cost more from what i have seen especially if they have agreed value rather than cash value as most of the auto plocies are. They may be your only option with 525s and a boat that is in the 110-115 range (just a guess).....

Where are you located?

Inusring a 28 Daytona

in 2007 when I was insuring my 28 Daytona w/496 HO's, I was also paying less than $1k annually. But then they refined my policy and put language in that excluded poker runs...so I also had to go to Merkel.

Keep in mind that Merkel was offering a discount for those that took the Tres Martin driving school (which I did as well).

The numbers mentioned in this thread are consistent with my experience.

I'm not doubting you but something doesn't sound right about that. Markel probably insures over 50% of the cats out there. Why would they be so much more expensive?

Call Staci(Stacey?) at Wozencraft.

Possibly because I dont have everything I own insured with them, and they stated that even though I currently own and have owned another in the past, it did not qualify as previous cat insurance for a new policy. The rep basically told me that you had to pay the high price premiums for a few years before they would get you into a reasonable rate. I obviously chose to pass on their services.
