Top speed for a 28 Daytona with 496HOs
Thinking of making a change if the numbers are right.

funny - I had a 29 Fountain when I moved up to my first cat - a 30 Motion. Prior to that I looked seriously at a 28 Daytona tall deck wtih 496 HO's and extension boxes. Boat ran about 102 +/- at sea level. Nice running boat.

I had one with 496's and top was 103 MPH. Hot summer days 96. Great boat

As long as wife does not load boat down with all the stuff she has to stick in every storage spot the boat has.

My boat is more of like a low 90s runner. But i have 4 batteries and a couple 12s with a box in there and have never got my props exactly right.
You guys running over 100...What props are you running exactly? |

My 05 28 Daytona runs low 90's loaded in the heat. I’ve seen 97 mph when cooler and only half a tank. Cooler being 85 and not 110 degrees at lake Mead. I think the X is high, because the altitude at lake Powell made it difficult to get the boat on plane until I added a tunnel tab; it also cut the speed to mid 80's.
I have 1.35 XR drives and stock Bravo 30p props. This was a dealer demo boat and they said at Havasu they got it to 103 with stock 32p props. Mike. |
From what i have seen the drive mounting on all the newer 28s is real close. I was looking closely at this as my boat doesnt plane well and i had some recommendations to add a drive spacer. My boat has xr std length lowers and 1.35 ratio drives w/o extension boxes. I think most all of them are setup that way. I run some scott baker modded 30s on my boat right now. At sea level up here in (relatively) cold air my boat pretty much cannot turn stock 32's past say mid to high 4000s. Just too much prop. I think i am seeing 15%+- prop slip on pretty much all the 4 blade props i have tried.
Im curious about whether anyone is running close to or over 100 with stock style lowers....??? |
