Was in Havasu for 8 days and did not get a second of seat time. I personally thought that s_cked. This weekend, we have a kickoff party at our local lake and that will be the first time I have not been a passenger in this boat. I never feel comfortable as a passenger just like I can't ride on the back of a motorcycle. Things could have and should have been different. "And that's all I am going to say about that".

sorry to hear Dan ,hope to get to enjoy her from here on out and have a safe boating season .... now getting back to the boating thing

The 25 in the photo with the 36 has a Teague 800 and would do 110. I got the 36 to open it up once that day and he walked away from me pretty good. Don't know what the top speed was but it was running good that day.

I grew up in the desert out west and I forgot how much of nothing there is in that part of the country. That was the most boring drive I have ever made.

Oh sorry Dan,, i was only there from mar 9th to 11th for my dads surgery,, so i had to be with him in the hospital... Oh yah,, its a boring drive...its 280miles from my house to havasu.... nothing to look at but open desert,, dead plants, and truckers... Lol... :drink:

Dan,
Sorry to hear things didn't wook out in AZ for you. Look on the bright side, it sounds like the boat is running well and the warm weather is moving in!

Congrats again on the new boat and truck!

Chit happens. Once again I had anticipated it so long, it was real disappointing not to get to drive on Lake Havasu. But, we spent all day out on Lake Lanier yesterday and the boat ran perfectly. I just love this boat! We cut through rough water like it was nothing and launched off a cruiser wave like I have never had the guts to do before. My wife later told me we have never been airborne that long before and the landing didn't even hurt. After some seat time, I have fell in love with this boat all over again. I love cutting through water at 110mph that would have made me stop and retreat in the 28'. It has been a long road to this point but the end result is worth it. The truck is in the shop getting the mural taken off the tailgate, so we used a 1 ton dually to tow it yesterday and it just reminds me how much I love the F650! I would recommend one to anyone with a large boat. The 3500 dually did the job, but it was big difference in how it did it and the cool factor. Dan

It's Lake Lanier. Go to other thread about the 36 and there is two more videos.

You were so right about these 36 Speedsters! I love this boat and the way it chops through rough water at 100mph. The same conditions would put my 28' to the shore. The props are 40 18 16 and a half. It runs 131 to 135 mph and I am hoping the Herrings I am waiting on change this some. If I just stab the throttles it will break loose but it planes quick and accelerates quickly. I fell in love with boat all over again after some seat time in warm weather. By the way, my boat is also labeled a Coupe on the dash? I guess they played loose with that name. Thanks, Dan

Nice! Welcome to the family. There aren't many of us :-).

Wow! Swinging 40's? I'm only swinging 34's. Is your 40 a 4 blade, 5 blade, or a clever? What Herring's did you order?

I've got Ilmor 625hp's with 200 hrs on them. During the off season next year I'm going to have them refreshed and upgraded to the 710's.

With 5 blade labbed 34's I've seen 123mph a few times in ideal conditions (ie cool, no humidity and slight chop). However, with the labbed props, I would throw a blade about every 20 hours due to the high xdim on my boat. So, I've been running the same 4 blade stock merc 34's for 3 seasons without any issue, but only seeing 110mph-118mph when running those....but I don't have to deal with the blade throwing issue.

Our hp's are not much different. I wonder why you can run such a small prop without hitting rev limit. I tried 36 and 38's and had good mid range but hit rev limiters at 117 to 120mph.

May be close to same HP, but what about rev limiter rpm for both motors. I am going to guess you have a lower rpm limit.

Steven, I was getting plenty of girls before I had a 36' coupe. The trick to girls is all in your words and actions, not what your drive or boat in or how much money you have. You will figure it out someday, but trust me, it's all in the words. By the way, you wouldn't want any of the women a 36' Skater would attract (that was just for Bill).

Yup...lot's of different things could effect this:
1. My gear ratio is 1:36
2. My Rev limiter is 6150 (or right around there)
3. Our x-dims may be slightly different.

I ran 36 4 blades (I still have them as a spare set), and just couldn't get the revs up in a timely fashion...took tol long to spin up.

My rev limiters are 5450 and of course the props are surface piercing. I am pretty happy with the way it planes and I feel the top speed for stock 700's is real good. Can't wait to try the new Herrings.
By the way, we are setting up our summer schedule for poker runs and your conversation with me that day helped me decide to take off work those weekends and go to these runs. The anticipation is killing me and I can't wait till next month to get started. Thanks again!

While this may be true...tooling around in a spanking rig doesn't hurt.

Within the first 15 mins of me tying up in the cove w/my coupe in havasu I had a marriage proposal. She was very easy on the eyes (OC chick), roughly 30% of her 95lb body weight was silicone, and while her IQ appeared to be smaller than her bra size - I wasn't interested in having her do my taxes or anything - I just don't think my wife would have been as amused as me and my crew were.

When I was out there the season before last with my rig, one of my crew likened it to "fishing with dynamite". It was one of the most entertaining vacations I have ever had. He was single and took full advantage of just about every opportunity that came his way.

I will always have fond memories of Havasu. Being surrounded by Vegas, Phoenix and LA, the caliber of talent was consistently impressive, and the girls were hot too :-)

Havasu is truly unique. There are very few inland water events that seem to draw the caliber of boats and scenery similar to Havasu, especially during Desert Storm (ie maybe LOTO, and Lake Cumberland, etc...). I love my boat...but man some of the rigs that you see at these events still leaves me w/boat envy.

I will agree with you on this. In Vegas, I actually had women open my door at a red light and get in the Lambo with me. No joke, had to kick them out and these were hot women. I was just trying to point out to Steven that this is not needed. I used to go out bar hopping with this dude who had no car, no money and had lost his two front teeth in a bar fight. He would walk up to some of the best looking women in the bar and get them to buy his drinks, take him home with her and sleep with her and her girlfriend at the same time. And he was not a handsome guy. But he could talk!!

Excellent! You're going to have a great time. For your first one or 2 it would be great to do the events with someone that has done those poker runs before (you can have them in your boat, or follow them if they are in their boat). This way you can know the little things, like if there are water hazards, no wake zones, etc..and places where you can stretch out without getting tickets, etc... little things like that.

Don't be surprised if you don't get hooked. They are a ton of fun, especially in a new rig. Not many people will have seen your set up and there will be tons of enthusiasts sharing your passion that will want closer looks, etc..

Depending upon your willingness to run in salt water, you may even want to consider the Poker Run's America season opener at Fort Meyers/Cape Coral. It's a lengthy run that you can stretch out on, in open waters, that typically has a very "cat-friendly" chop.

Looking forward to hearing your perspective on your first run.

PokerRun388 03-27-2011 09:53 AM

HAHA.... i love reading everyone's thoughts.....

Dan, what poker run will be your first this year??

Do u think you'll launch in the salt w/ the extreme trailer?
members on here tell me those steel, painted trailers really get chewed up w/ the salt...?

Right now, it looks like the Chattanooga Tennessee Poker Run. This is beautiful piece of the Tenn river and many years ago, our old Atlanta Hot Boat Club had a run there. We had no poker, but we everything else and had a great time. We do plan on some Florida runs and no PokerRun 388, I have lifting tabs on my boat and I would use a crane. We want to go the Destin run and one in Jacksonville.
