Extension Box On 26 Daytona
 

I reasantly bought a 26 and am already amking changes to it. I am looking at putting on an extension box. Wanted to get some input from you guys that have already done it. pros and cons thanks for the help:coolcowboy:

Hey stoltz, before you plan on purchasing a extension box, you need to check your x dimension. If your x dimension is to low already, adding the box will make it worse due to the increase in set back.. Think the general rule of thumb is, if you go back 12 inches you need to go up roughly 1 inch...Hope this helps before you spend the $$

I recently had some transom work done at Prestige Marine, in AZ, and becuz they had to pull the engine out, I asked them about an IMCO box, and they told me NO, I didn't need to spend that kind of money, on a 25 daytona. The boat didn't need it....

Hey Poker run 388, I had purchased the 3inch rise 12 inch set back box....and everyone including the guys from Eliminator told mee not to put it...and I did it anyways...my boat just ran 117mph at LOTO and 118 on my gps with the 6 cylinder engine I have...I cant sit here and say the box is hurting mee...ever since I started this project its been one big trial and error and finally things are coming together...it all boils down to x dimension and if your willing to spend the money...

I'm not sure I'll measure it when I get home on tuesday. I know that the top of the gimbal to my rub rail is 3" down. I run a imco sc drive with a 2" shorty with 1.36 gear ratio. The boat has a GT 900hp 540.

Hey Stoltz, I cant really reference where the drive location is in conjuction with the rub rail on a 26 Daytona....basically when you get home, level out the drive and try to figure where the front of your nose cone of your drive is with the bottoms of the outer sponsons!! Basically below, level or higher then the sponsons...

Ok right now the drive is 1" below the bottom of the outer chines. Again I have an imco sc upper with a 2" shorty 1.36 ratio.

Hey, That was basically were i was, the problem is your limited to going up any further. The same exact position I was in, I myself have a Imco SC upper with the -2 lower. The only problem, which is kind of a big problem is, if you put the +3in up extension box you have to change engine mounts and even exhaust. Probably not feasable for you. But do not put the standard extension box, since your drive is already kind of low, the added length will make it worse...Hope this helps..
