30 Eagle questions...

Researching new/new used boat options. Looking for thoughts/opinions of running a 30 Eagle with a single.....

What would it take for a 30 eagle to run 80mph with a single??

I've got a 25 eagle now, looking to step up to something with an enclosed head and a bit more cabin room. Not necessarily the twins though......

It would take a decent amount of power with a single 30'. Probably in the 800+ range with the right combo.

Why would you want a 30ft boat with a single engine? Too big and slow, too much work for the drive, right? I would think a 30 eagle w/ twin Merc 525efi's would be a great reliable, user friendly pkg?

Why not just look for 28? If you want to stay with a single engine boat?:)

There's an awesome twin engine one for sale right now for a decent price. It has 575's in it....that would be a damn nice boat.

I have a 2000 30' Eagle with twins. Cant imagine with a single, would be quit sluggish and hard on the drive. tryin to reach out to EZ here with the 01 that does 93 mph. Just had my motors done by Ron Sporl, they dynoed at 650hp per side. Im only getn around 91 loaded or empty, thats with labbed 30's at 5600 RPMs,thats the top side Ron wanted me to run. I will have a set of 32's by spring (live in Wisconsin). What you runnin for props? and you runnin any tabs at WOT ?Oh also I have 1.5 ratio. Just my first summer with a twin, still testing! Had a 28 Eagle before this, what a step up!!!

Where in Wisconsin are you located. I generally boat the Madison lakes, Mississippi, and Lk. WI.

Brandon.xp30 12-07-2012 08:37 AM

Yes,got the PM. thanks, just need to experiment different props and practice ,practice! Ryan- Im from the Wisconsin Rapids area, mostly boat on the Wis. River to Petenwell, Castle rock lake, Winnebago only once for the four horsemen poker run (was a blast) and hopefully mississippi next summer, was too low this year. I had the 28 eagle before, its alot like the 25,not a ton of room up front, but steppin up to the 30 is a jump. Much more room as it is a deeper boat than the 28. I dont think youd be happy just goin to a 28. If your lookin for economy, find a 30 with twin 502 mpi's, not many around, thats why I have what I have.Good luck on the search,I will keep my eye open!

My friend used to have a 30 Eagle with twin Merc 575's and it ran mid 90's. To go in the 80's with a single, you'd need more power than a bravo drive would be reliable with

What does a 30 Eagle with twins weigh wet on the trailer? How would a 09 Cadillac Ext do for the hauler?

Randy Nielsen 03-19-2013 02:26 AM

My 34 Kachina weighs around 10,000 with fuel & pulls like a dream behind my dually, You could pull it with your rig but would need all the help you can get from the trailer brakes. I wouldn't pull a 30 Eliminator across the country without a GOOD trans cooler but it could be done.

I wouldnt tow a 30' eagle with an escalade. It's based on a half ton truck frame. It may have the oats but doesnt have the brakes or length to tow safely. My wifes Tahoe can pull our 25' Eagle ( single 502) OK but it's short wheel base and small disc brakes make towing an adventure. Encounter cross wind and it would be sketch at best. My 3/4 ton HD 4x4 crew cab Duramax doesnt doesnt flinch an any condition with the small boat behind it. It also doesnt flinch when our 27' 11' high travel trailer is being dragged through high winds and 65 MPH, weighed the trailer fully loaded at it's near 10K. If you live in area that has steep grades, high winds, rutted highways I wouldnt attempt towing that boat with a light duty rig. It will do it, but it isnt safe. JMHO.

I just bought a 30 with twin brad smith 750's. Up around 80 she starts chime walkin. Any suggestions?

cloudmaster_321 03-25-2014 10:42 PM

I've still been keeping my eye open for a 30 Eagle that appeals to me. I've seen this one for sale on this website for quite a while. Does anyone know anything about it? I don't know really anything about Ron Sporl engines, or what these really are that are installed. Carbed? Injected?

Thanks.

IROCDave 03-28-2014 09:41 PM

That boat has been listed for a couple of years. If it as clean as it looks in the vacuum of that room it would be worth the asking price. Been wondering why it's still for sale. If it's the real deal it would be a great buy. My wife loves it....

Thanks.

This boat was sold 2 years ago, reason I know that is because I bought it! Ron sporl engines are very good, although someone messed with them and I ended up repowering with Sporl agaian, but went a little bigger, 650 hp per side. I too have a problem with chine walking around 80 - 85mph, Ive tried bunch of props, haven't found anything that helps it, I can get about 93 mph on gps if I can hold on to it.

Yeah no kidding! If I have tabs up u can't do 60. Dropping tabs down gets me 80 but still almost outa control. That's with no wake. With a little chop I can hit 100 for a short distance but gotta shut it down before I hit a side roller. That triggers the chime and feels like it will roll over. Do fountains do this?

bajaislander 06-03-2014 06:29 PM

Just picked up a 300 Eagle this spring with twin 496HOs and I've only had it out a few times, but it get's loose quick with the tabs up. Anybody try three blade props?

cloudmaster_321 06-10-2014 01:15 PM

I have to ask, since I was asking the same questions when I first got my 25 eagle 6 years ago, and it was chine walking badly on me. Have you guys ever driven a stepped hull with a pad before? If not, there are some growing pains of getting used to the hull. My boat will top at 80mph, and between 60-70, you may need to "bump steer" to keep it on the pad. Not sure if that is a technical term or not, but if you feel it starting to chine to one direction, it is necessary to stop that cycle by quickly bumping the steering the opposite direction. From 70-80, it is almost always necessary in anything but perfectly calm water. The more "washing machine" the water get's, the more bump steering is necessary. I don't have tabs on my boat either. I do have full hydro steering however. I don't know if the 30's come with full hydro steering from the factory or not, but if it's an add on hydro, I would recommend completing the system. I also did have my props labbed by B-blades, and I feel that helped in this regard as well.
