excalibur hawk and eagle
currently looking at mid 80's hawk and eagle,40 and 42 ft,never purchased a boat this large and no nothing about excalibur boats.love the lines on these boats though!
any input would be greatly appreciated! JUSTICE |
Re: excalibur hawk and eagle
You will probably get better performance from the hawk than the eagle. The eagle has a taller deck and more cabin amenities.

I have a 1982 Hawk 40. It has twin 454/420hp mercs, Trs drives. It is an awesome riding hull. They also have a 9ft beam, which gives you a little more room than a Cigarette. The cabin doesnt have much headroom, but I do have a head and a fridge and a sink.
The eagle has the same bottom, but has a raised deck and a integrated platform. Much more headroom. Excalibur Marine built the Hawk in 1982-84. Wellcraft bought them mid year 84 and the quality went down. You really want the "Excalibur" Hawk 40. There is a couple nice ones for sale on boattraderonline.com I paid 25 for my Hawk two months ago with the trailer. The Hawk has a classic look, and they are very unique. Go for the Hawk, it was the offshore boat of the year in 1982 or 83. |

Re: excalibur hawk and eagle
The Hawk 40 is relativly light considering its size and age. Fred, what engines do you have? Speed? Any pics of your interior? I would like to get mine redone in all white.
|
Re: excalibur hawk and eagle
My engines are 454/400hp Cyclones with air-gap intakes 750cfm Demon carbs, different cams, and worked over props by Houston propeller....best speed is 63mph in perfect water conditions and 58-59mph anytime, my interior has all been redone in white with a black stripe on the hatch....I'll see if I can find some pic's....Fred

Re: excalibur hawk and eagle
I Have A 1988 42' Excalibur Eagle With New 454 Ho Procharger Motors. The Eagle Is The Best Of Both Worlds, You Get The Performance And Look Of A Off Shore But You Get The Cabin Of A Cruiser. You Won't Win Any Races Because They Are Very Heavy But They Are Fun. They Came With Twin 454 420 Hp Motors, And Did About 55 Mph Top End. Lots Of Fuel, Need A Pig Wallet $$$$ At The Gas Pumps. I Really Believe If Your Not Going To Stay Over Night On It A 30 To 35' Would Be Better. Cheaper To Run, Easier To Maneuver, Less Docking Fee's Or Can Be Trailered Easier. There Was A Nice 1987 42' Eagle On E-bay Last Week Going For About 50000.00 New Motors And New Interior. The 1988 Boats Otu For About 55000.00 But It Tough To Get It. I Have About 120,000 In Mine Now. The Nice Thing Is They Are Very Sturdy Boats Mine Still Looks New After Almost 17 Years.

I have to agree with electrical1 about the Eagle being the best of both worlds. The extra headroom in the Eagle makes it much more liveable. We do a lot of overnights and not having to crouch down in the cabin is nice. My other boat is a 38 flatdeck scarab that we've had for 9 years now and my wife finally said that's enough. She was sick of crouching and wanted standing headroom. I really didn't care but I must say I'm getting used to it. Just something to think about.

Re: excalibur hawk and eagle
Cool boat there "kaama". If you want speed and race style, go for the hawk. If you want a nice offshore boat with lots of room, the eagle is tough to beat. I wouldnt mind an eagle, Id actually trade my hawk for one. I like the sun pad and swim platform on the eagle
|
Re: excalibur hawk and eagle
Thanks Thunder. But I gotta admit nothing beats the look of a flatdeck. That's why I'm having a hard time putting the Scarab up for sale.

Hey,anybody know anything about this 1987 42' excalibur.Looks like a very nice boat!Going to check it out end of oct.I liked the look of the hawk but it looks like the eagle has more room.I am 6'1" so need all the headroom I can get.
Thanks Justice |
Re: excalibur hawk and eagle
The pictures look great. Looks real clean. The price looks good too. :D I've looked at it a number of times on Trader. You said you are 6'1". When you go look at it look at one important thing. Get in the V berth. I don't know how much overnighting you plan on doing but the V berth is only 6'. I'm onlly 5'7" so it's ok for me. Just something to consider. I'm not trying to steer you away from it, they're great boats. Going from my flatdeck Scarab to my Excalibur is like night and day in the cabin. I think when you see it in person you'll love it. :evilb: Good luck. Let us know how it turns out.

Re: excalibur hawk and eagle
How fast do you think a '85 40' Hawk would run with 540's?
Merlin heads, airgap intakes with 1050's, Crane 731? hydraulic rollers, 9.2:1. |
Re: excalibur hawk and eagle
My 40 Runs 75mph with 2 630HP 572ci.
|
Re: excalibur hawk and eagle
I just have the honor to drove one of these hawks 40 , nothing handle like these boats, I now have a cigarette 38 and believe me the hawk had better handiling in bad seas. I believe that the hawk 40 its a beautifull combination with yanmar or seatek diesel engines,# 3 or 6 speedmasters and two speed trans.
what do you think? |
