Planeing

I have recently acquired a 1978 Excalibur 32 o.s. as a project boat. The guy before me had re-powered with a pair of 502/500 with 471 blowers. The boat has TRS drives with 14.75x25 three blade s.s. props.just back from prop shop.I have the interior out of the boat. My problem is I can not get the boat to plane. It starts to cavatate at about 3000 rpm.
Does anyone have any advice? Thanks Tim

I had an issue like that but i sold the boat before figuring it out.....but what i used to do to get on planes was give it gas till she wont go any faster.....then back off the throttle completely till the wave in the rear of the boat catches up to you and pushes the boat forward. At that moment i get back on the gas and the props bite and the boat gets up and goes no problem. My problem i think was that he props werent right.....but if you say they are fresh from the shop then i dont know. What kind of props are they and which way do they spin?

Re: Planeing

You really have to ease that boat up with the three blades.
How much tab are you using?
My 84 Excalibur 31 really takes some time to get on plane. I haven't had it in the water for 2 years but I seem to remember keeping it under 2800 rpm until the bow settled over. otherwise the props just blow out.
Try a pair of bravo 26 pitch 4 blades.
What transmissions does it have the Borg warner or the merc II?

Hey Tim,
Those prop directions are looking from the back of the boat right? so they are turning out. Mine were turning in ,but I think turning out would make it plane easier.

Where are you located? Post some pics of the boat.

Are you sure the props are cavitating and not the trans slipping? My boat had the merc II trans also. I had a problem with one slipping while trying to get on plane, but no problems once on plane. Replaced the clutches and all was fixed.

What K-planes do you have?
