Excalibur questions

Although the Excaliburs were built a little before my boating time, I love the classics. What can you tell me about the quality and layup of the Excalibur hulls compared to Formula or Cigarette.

Re: Excalibur questions

I have a 1982 Excalibur Hawk 40. The quality was very good. They were designed to be somewhat light in weight. They were lighter than say a formula 402. They did around 60mph with a pair of 400HP mercs. The formulas only about 54. The Hawk 40 was the same hull as the Chris Craft Stinger 390X, but the Excaliburs layup was better. Mine may be for sale if you are interested. :drink:

Re: Excalibur questions

Thanks so much, I spent an hour or so reading the old thread you linked me to. I had no idea Reggie bought the 32 Excalibur mold, etc. I hate to dwell in the past, but I still love all the old boats. I remember the days when Poker runs were 50- 60 Mph and just about anyone with a passion for boating could participate. As much as I love all the new technology, I'm just not all that impressed by guys that just drop $500K on a performance boat these days because they can. So much of the joy of having a performance boat is the pride in maintaining and improving it. I bet I get more positive comments from other boats owners on my old 87 Formula 311 than I would with a 2007.
