38 excalibur help
 

hello i am a new member to OSO and i can use all the help i can get.. I just recently purchased the 38 excalibur that you seen on ebay a week ago.. having twins will be a new thing for me... i have been to a half dozen poker runs in my 20' open bow that i bought a week after graduation.. (highschool graduation) over the past three years i have went from a four cylinder merc to a 4.3... and now a 305.. that will push my light little boat just over fifty and out of the water in the choppy waves left from the wakes of all your guys's boats at the poker runs.. i am anxious to join "the club" and seen this boat on ebay and thought "that is my way in"... it is a great lookin boat and will be an expensive but great learning experience and i am young and up for the challenge.. (it helps that there is no wife and kids at home...) Any info that you can provide would be great.. I have read many pages about Bill Farmer and some of the history between him and "Mr.Excal's" dad and i keep diggin up more history from ebay and a little from google.... obviously this project will take me awhile but i have high expectations for the outcome of this boat... I am lookin for interior and exterior photo's.... great links... a reasonable but talented painter... and info on how to set up my boat for 60-70 mph without killin my wallet... please help... Here is a picture of my boat that i repainted and wrenched on since highschool and my buddy's truck (that is him leaning on it) down in cumberland this summer....The superduty is what i usually pull it with but at the time of this photo that was taken of the boat my truck was wounded from a truck pull competition (hence the picture)... together they make a sharp pair for me and my friends to show up in...

Comgrats on your new purchase. I'm new to the larger twin boat stuff too. I don't feel qualified to make recomendations on selecting what all to do (I just know about what I have), but I would recomend you post this in the general boating discussion section because more people seem to hang out in that section, I bet you'd be more likley to get some comments.

I am almost sure, that some where in his picture collection, Excalibur Hawk 40 has one or two of a 38 like yours that was finished, I do not have a link to his photos any more, but he would be the guy to talk to, he is one of the few excalibur owners to start and complete a full on restoration/upgrade, and photo document each step that I have seen. I am sure hes really busy,, but I know he will chime in when he has the time.

I dont know any thing about the quality of this guy or his engines,, but his ebay add look prettty interesting.

That 38 would be quite a slug with 330's. He is gonna need 850-900 HP total to see 60. But its a great looking hull!

Your right, 330 hp wouldnt get close to 60 mph,, I should have explained better,, I posted that ebay link to show the sellers store,, not really the product he was selling at the time. I have seen him come up with some pretty nice trs drives and parts, in the past, as well as trannys, hubers and bw's, his engine set ups always look to be stock or basic low hp, not much use in this case. Take it for what it is, Like I said I dont know anything about his quality, service or etc. Just some brain storming.
I would be looking for at least 500-600 hp per side in the most reliable form possible, but some heavy duty drives for sure, again alot of cash, but konrads would be near the top of my list, or a real nice set of low hour or rebuilt trs drives to save $$.

Here you go Brian, These are some of excalibur hawk 40 's webshots, he has done an excellent job documenting a photo history of excaliburs, take a look at the excalibur boats photos.
You will find a 38 on page 5, but this should get your blood flowing a little. :D

40's must of been a very popular model.. i never see any pics of 38's i can only think of four or five pics of different boats that i have seen compared to almost a twenty of the 40' pics that i have seen.. does anyone know how many they built and was it only in 1982 or did they build them other years too... I am struggling finding any with my hull design
