switching trs to bravo-best install height?

hi,im a new member with a new boat. have a few questions concerning new project. plus we need a little activity on our forum. i have a 24' am wondering best location for drive. center of gimble housing is 19" fom bottom of v on the trs. what should i install this bravo at? i have to many conflicting answers.is it true to install bravo cavitation plate 1" above bottom of v-which would put prop about 3" above bottom of v ? im sure someone else has done this. any info would help! i also have complete trs assembly{with merc II/electric shift} for sale if anyone interested-worked great all summer. thanks guys! excuse my sloppiness not to good with typing. boat has a small block if need to know.

I would think if your prop shaft is 3" above your keel (V) it would cause alot of problems. Did you mean 3" below? A Bravo is something like 21 1/2 to 22" from input (crank) shaft to prop shaft. If you set your X dimension at say 18" this will set your prop shaft 3 1/2 to 4" below your keel. I would think this is were you need to be. It worked for my 27 excalibur anyway:D

Double check my dimensions, but I'm sure someone will chime in with the exact numbers.

I am in the middle of doing the same swap on my 27 speedster. What kind of speed gains did you get out of that ? My buddy told me with a notched transom you want your x-dimension to be about 19 3/4 to 20 1/2 could that be right ? It sounds a little high.

That sounds way high. You might run into handling issues, but you could always throw a spacer to it. PM "JERSEYDEVIL" here on the board and he can give you exact X numbers. He bought my 27. If I remember correct it was about a 18" X. Put my prop shaft 3 1/2" or so below keel. As far as speed. With about 550 hp, Bravo 1 1.5 gears, stock 26 Bravo four blade prop, three guys and 1/2 tank gas it did 81 on GPS.

Oh and a stripped cabin:D

I have all the parts and pulled the motor but I don,t know witch direction to go. Who did you have to glass the transom ? I found an adapter plate made by outdrives . com. Do you know anyone who's used this? And do you think it will work

jdub 11-18-2007 12:26 PM

I did the glass work myself. The adapter plate may work but I don't think it will allow you to raise your X.

excalibur82 11-18-2007 12:32 PM

Did you replace the whole transom or just patch it in and how long did it take

jdub 11-18-2007 12:38 PM

I did the whole transom, but you could piece it in. You could do it over a weekend no problem. I'm getting ready to do it to my Corsa soon.
