1977 24 if anyone is interested

I just drove by this boat today and talked to the owner over the phone. It looks to be in fairly good condition with a quick look over the outside. It was raining so I did not get into it too much. I think he was asking $8500 OBO with a 454 and TRS drive. I think it would be a fun boat but I don't think I have the time to fix it up (but I would like to) Anyone know this boat?

SOX 05-02-2009 11:08 AM

I think it would be a blast to ride on but I don't think my wife would enjoy the white knuckle ride I suspect it would be. The interior looked real clean as well and I did not look at the cabin. It has sit down seats, has anyone ever made them into a stand up boat by modifying the floor? Or would sit down bolsters be the way to go? I don't know much about the TRS drive.

Hydrophobic guy 05-05-2009 02:31 PM

I've got one with covertable bolster seats. It originally was a retired race boat from the great lakes. It has a TRS and a 550 hp 504 I beat the livin snot out of it and have had no problems with the drive but, threw a rod last run last season motor is coming back as a 526. My girlfriend loves the thing and its a ton of fun and can definately bea white knuckle ride if you want it. From the pictures it looks as thou it has the original motor probably 330hp. I bought mine for $4,500 but it needed alot of work.

very nice boat, any more pics of the interior? Is it a 7' beam or 6.5'? I tapped on the sides of the boat and it sounded very hollow. Is this common? If so is this considered a lake boat or could it run in 2-4 footers? I am sure I will not make an offer but I am very interested in the older boats. I wish I had the means to buy it and restore it.

similar bottom as pantera superboat etc... all the 24x7s.
Should run real nice out in the open water.

Its very skinny less than 7' at the stern mine is very solid but, it is one of a few kevlar boats they built in the 24' as for running in nasty water here's a pic from its racing days and that water is WAY bigger than 2-4'. As for interior pics until my motors done the wrap stays on but, I will say the interior was all wood paneled and trimmed to look old school.

That is the old Thunder Buzzard from Eastlake, Ohio. Raced with GLOPRA and owned by Tom Gulinburci.

interior has no covering or headliner but the cushions look to be in good condition.

The down side. A few snaps have pulled out and on the "fairing" area ther are hles where there may have been a wind-deflector installed at one time. Also the bottom is painted but the chips on the keel apear to be just in the bottom paint. A fewe stress cracks in the Gel but not too bad.

Questions,

Was the wire on the bow an antenna or a grab handle?

TRS and tranny, how hard would it be to replace with bravo or would that not even be worth it?

how fast with a stock 454?

Wire is a lifeline

Switch to a Konrad if ya want

Not very fast, maybe 60, but close up the hole and strap 2 outboards back there you would see 75:drink:

konrad

swapping to a konrad is really expensive no????????????

You are correct. Yup, I bought the boat off of Walt Anderson a year and a half ago then spent 6 months getting it back in shape. Waiting for the motor to come back from the shop. Blew the one in it last time out. Coming back as a 526 should go good this time around.

That is a pretty subjective question.
But it could run 12-15k.
I would leave the tranny and trs. Nothing wrong w/ that combo.
There are plenty of TRS parts around, if you know where to go.

Hey Sox did the owner give you any history on that boat? We had an Orange 24, I think it was a 77, and lived in Annapolis when it was sold in the early 90's.

SOX 05-09-2009 10:24 PM

This could be it. I did not get any history on the boat except how he purchased the boat about a year ago. Any pics of your old boat?

texaschopper 05-11-2009 07:18 PM

No I do not have any pics.

When ours was sold, the deck was seperated from the hull.

Our seats were stripped, and I think the cabin cushions were orange, but that could have been redone.

We bought it new from Bennett Marine, that was somewhere off Rt. 4 in Calvert County.

Jammin' 05-11-2009 08:17 PM

Chopper, Did you keep your boat at Londontowne Marina in the 80's?

No that was not us, though we did live all the in back of the South River, starting in '85. Then boat went to a marina in Deale, was taken apart for a re-do, but never completed.

I used to see a brightly colored 24' there in '88. It left an impression on me, seeing that small loud thing bobbing in the waves.

I was only about 15 at time, but I have memories of it being quite a ride out in the bay.

texaschopper 05-12-2009 10:15 AM

I spoke with my Mom this morning about this. She says our boat was sold to a German guy in Pasadena/Glen Burnie, who they met through the Andersons that own(ed) FL. Boat Sales, and had a Black 27 Speedster.
