1977 Excalibur 24

We recently picked up the Excalibur 24' that was posted elsewhere in this forum. I only have a few engine photos thus far (it's still covered). However, the guy we bought it from knew nothing about the motor, so I figured I'd turn to the collective. Any thoughts? I know it has been rebuilt several times. The boat has a Konrad drive and a rebuilt Merctrans that supposedly was built to handle the horsepower of the motor. We'll hopefully get it out in a few weeks and see what it'll do.

Cool. What's up with the flame arrestor? Does the boat have some kind of old school shaker style ram air hatch? It's kind of ugly. no offense.

I agree. It's got this stupid snorkel of an air filter and the sheetmetal thing links to the base.

So besides the deck. You were asking the differences between this hull & 24sb, are there any that you see regarding deep v / pad on the running surface?
Dude tell u mph?

all the ones ive seen have a pad, basically same as pantera but the layup is not as strong the hull is not made out of heavy roving like the panteras are. Still a great boat though because the deck is fully glassed on, finish work is great and the original hardware is all top quality.

from what i have heard the layup is thicker and stronger than superboat, watch out for stress cracks between the pad and the stringers

The guy we bought it from claims it had a 600 HP motor. He also claims it's a stock motor from Mercury. Clearly, at least one of these things is false. We'll see what it does when we get it out.

The bottoms are different. The Superboat has a full V, no pad and longer/larger chines. The Excalibur has a small pad over the last 2-3 feet of the hull and much smaller chines. As Catalyst mentioned, the Excalibur is laid up heavier for sure. I guess it remains to be seen which one is the better rough water boat of the two. I'm sure the SB will flex a lot more, but I'd think the Excalibur would have less lift due to the chine setup and might slam a bit more because of the pad.

Looks like a HP500 with a 525 blower installed. Probably more like 550-575HP

Theres a guy on here goes by the name hang time 27 he had one with about 500 horse said it ran 80 with a bravo, so i would expect similar with the konrad. He got tossed from the boat watched it speed off and fireball on a beach, i put a killswitch in mine after reading that

What would make you say that? I'm not doubting you, just looking for clues since like I said we have no idea what this thing is.

Only things I could point out that's not typical on any merc 525sc that Ive seen is.
The blower is painted blue. Factory comes black. Also it has the weiand "w" cast into the side instead of the "merc sc " or whatever that logo is. So I'd guess the blower is from weiand, not made for merc specifically. Which is all I could really notice from pix other than the overwhelming air scoop & zip tie :)
Is the carb mounting surface on the blower on a slight angle or flat? Just curious.
Wanting to see what this thing does for #s. Mondays forecast is mid 60s ;)
