31 excalibur restoration

I am now starting to begin my excalibur project. Its a 1978 NAP hull. I think its kevlar hull but still trying to confirm. Boat is in very good shape for its age and will be getting a pair of old school 420hp 454s and trs drives. Working on stripping the hull now and will do a complete rerig/ rewire. Im sure ill have lots of questions as i go!

cant seem to post pics...

Turns out boat will need a new transom. I am now trying to decide if going to bravo while im doing it is a better choice. I have access to 2 gimbals and 1 drive already. Anyone ever change one to bravo? I know zaine did but he doesnt post anymore

Are you still working on this restoration?

Yes i am. Been slow going as work and life has been busy. I got the transom out, engine stringers and bulkhead too. Once the new bulkhead, stringers and transom are done i am going to paint the hull and deck as close to original as possible.

I have aquired 2 bravos, transom assemblies, offshore mounts, k planes, marine machine full hyd steering, zero effort controls, new gauges, lighting, wiring harnesses, drop out bolster seats, various rigging components. I have almost everything to build a pair of nice 454s i just need to decide on cams.

Its been lots of work so far with plenty more to go. Hoping to have it out in 2021

Why not go wit a lighter LS motor setup to get the same or more HP? I I keep my cursed 38' the 541s are coming out and 2x LS7 motors are going in.

I am also repainting the deck in mine this winter... pulling the motors and doing a mild build. Still looking at cam choices as well. If you went with aluminum heads, intake and exhaust manifolds with the weight savings going to the bravo you could be pulling close to 500 lbs off the back of the boat

Let us know how that works for you and the cost to make it all happen.

Post some pics id love to see your boat. I have aluminum intakes and alum 496 exhaust manifolds, and the bravo conversion.....plus all the rotten soaked wood is now gone. She will be much lighter and stronger then before. Im not spending the money on alum heads or anything yet. Ill get a few seasons out of these and upgrade as i need/ want to. Main focus is getting it back to an operating boat. Long ways to go!

Great looking boat! I have the 1978 with the grey deck, black sides. I’m pretty sure I’m going red...

I saw your boat in another post. I saw that one before here in ontario. Is it still in ontario? Good looking boat and in my opinion he gave it away if you look at how much it costs to restore one.

Yes still in Ontario. I am in the Prescott Brockville area . St Lawrence use primarily. Hope to go into Lake Ontario a bit this coming summer. The 1000 islands is such great boating and with the 31 you can go out when ever. My last boat was a 21 and could only go out if it was really calm.

Is your boat on the trailer still? Your trailer looks like it’s set up decently. Mine is not set up right. I was supposed to fix that while it was in the marina but I spent my free time enjoying the boat instead! If possible I’d like to get some measurements of the bunks
