26'' Excalibur anti-fouling and speed

Hello! I write from Italy, pleased to be here.
I have a 2000 Excalibur 26 with Merc 502 engine. I bought the boat in a river place and it was without anti-fouling paint. In sea water I touched 59 mph at the begin. Now I must paint the hull and it seems that I lost 5 mph... Can anyone confirm that this is normal and the speed are good/normal?
Thanks a lot
Filippo

Welcome Fillippo!
Yes, antifoul can reduce your speed by 5 mph. I had a 26' Scarab many years ago and had no choice but to keep it in the water and antifoul. My speed went from low 60's to about 58 mph. Unfortunately, antifoul slows you down and leaving a boat in the water increases your maintenance bills. Keep an eye on anodes and corrosion on the outdrive. Service everything regularly, flush the engine (fresh water) as often as you can and enjoy your boat.

Beautiful country Italy, I'm looking forward to another brief visit there next year. :)

Ciao. Sono crescuitto vicino Napoli nell una cita si chima Pinetamare ;)

Are you leaving your boat in salt water? If so, I never saw a single one, even with anti-foul hull paint, not get grime, sludge, and even a few barnacles all over it even after a couple of weeks. Are you able to pull the boat out of the water to clean the hull or maybe even keep it on a trailer?
