Maiden Voyage in Hawk 40

Well, 3 1/2 yrs after deciding to rebuild 2 454's and refit the interior, I launched a completely different boat. As you may have read, this project was never meant to go this far, but it did and it is awesome. The boat ran this weekend without any serious issues. We started with a fresh transom, raised the X dimension, moved the engines close, switched to bravos, dumped at least 1000lbs, and added 500hp. The boat was really impressive.
The Report: The drives we are running came off a 32 Skater and have a 1.2x ? ratio in them, so were tried to run 26" 4 blades. The boat came onto plane really easy and pulled much harder than expected. The engines would only turn 4200-4400 rpms, which felt faster than the boat was ever before. Even being so over prop'ed the boat still had nice acceleration. The drives are having 1.5:1 ratios installed and we will try again. I think that will really wake the boat up and I am expecting 80+ - mph.

Zanie, i hope you see this and it helps your consience about your X dimension and extension boxes.

As I look a little closer I see its not in yet. Did you use Imron?

No interior yet. Still debating on what color and making sure that there is nothing left to do before we install it.
The paint is the one part of the boat that I left up to someone else. I dropped it off with rainbow stripes and picked it up solid white. I dont know what he used to be honest.

Keep it all white. Interior, paint, gauges, everything!

The gauges have yellow, panels are silver, engines are purple...you can look in my link. The interior will probably be yellow with a white pirelli floor. That is unless my Tan interior idea goes through.

Awesome boat! I've been following your project all along and it's turning out great.

wow awsome!!

I saw a 40' hawk that had been painted and had bravos over the weekend for sale at the VA Beach boat show.

Just makes me want to go and take a harder look at it now.
