I've Been wanting to share this stunning Ripping Red Winning Larry Smith Hull raced by the McWhinney family during the glory days. Calder McWhinney was able to locate the Vessel and aquired it to perform a full restoration and Re Rig to Race. Great work has already been done and some really great HD footage has been shot of the entire process. So this is a multi part series in progress and the engines are now installed. So the series begins here with an introduction and history and as things progress you will easily feel the magnitude and special connection to this beautiful piece of History !

" In 1987 the L804 V4 project began to take shape. By the time the factory produced its technical document for the 1989 season, the engine had reached its definitive competition specification: 8,172 cc from a 60-degree V12 in light alloy, with bore and stroke of 98.7 mm and 89 mm.

Four overhead camshafts – one pair per bank, driven by duplex chains – operated four valves per cylinder, giving 48 valves in total. Period marketing referred to it as the “48 valve” engine. The crankshaft, in special alloy steel with 120-degree crank pin spacing, ran in seven main bearings. Compression ratio was 11.5:1. No parts were interchangeable with the road car V12 despite sharing the same 60-degree architecture. "

Hi everyone,

My wife and I recently bought a home in Southwest Florida. I grew up around boats — Donzis, Cigarettes, and similar performance hulls — and being on the water has always been a big part of my life.

Over the past several years I’ve dealt with major back issues (putting off surgery), and before I make a big investment in a performance cat (Thundercat/MTI/OL ), I’m trying to figure out if I can still comfortably handle time out on the water.

I know this is an unusual ask, but I was wondering if anyone in the Fort Myers / SWFL area who runs a similar type of boat (or any performance boat) might be open to taking me out for a short ride so I can see how my back handles it. Even 30–45 minutes would tell me a lot.

I’m happy to cover fuel and compensate you for your time. I completely understand if it’s not something you’d be comfortable with — just figured this community might be the right place to ask.

Thanks for reading!
