I think if you did all the prep work, dewaxer and then sanded you should be fine. I would also supply them the paint. From the times I have dropped off cars to Maaco for painting for quick resale they used Western brand paints, which I believe is Sherwin Williams automotive paints lower line.
I painted my boat a couple of years ago with Dupont Chroma One paints. If this helps. Didn't want to get into the Awlgrip, or Imron and the dupont rep said he would use it for something that was in the water. And a real easy paint to spray.

Picked up the boat on Friday. I can say I'm 95%+ satisfied with the job! As Ted said (Insptech), this is a race boat, and I couldn't justify spending $5,000 for a paint job on a $20,000 boat. Part of the unsatisfactory 5% was my fault-some of the fiberglass repairs were not perfect. I repaired some holes in the dash area, and they were not perfectly prepped-my bad. I also sealed some holes in the transom area (the boat use to have external water pick up) this came out perfect. I'm not an expert on fiberglass repair, but overall I'm pleased with the outcome! One of my neighbors thought it was a new hull!
Myself and Waterboy spent the day today replacing the rubrail and hardware. I will try and post some pics this week. I'm sure some nay-sayers will tell me how this paint job won't last....yada yada......but for my purposes, I"M VERY HAPPY with the results!!

I'm glad for you! You did most of the un-fun stuff. Heck, if you buy the paint, I will shoot it for less than that! . Did they break the paint at the bottom radius?

Wonder what they would charge to paint a 40ft. steel trailer?
Or, I wonder how many 3rd world natives I would have to hire to prep the trailer so I can shoot it on a Saturday morning?
