Default Fiberglass Layup

installing new stringers and transom. Should i alternate between cloth and mat or all of one then capped with the other. Going with west system epoxy resin. Also they say not to thin the resin but i would like to thin it and coat all the wood to help seal it good bad idea ???

dont bother with West Systems way to expensive and viscocity is to high. Try 635 from this place

http://www.uscomposites.com/epoxy.html

great stuff and is much cheaper. use 2 layers of 1808 Bi-ax for everything except the layers between the old glass and the new transom and the layers between the transome wood itself. use 1.5 oz mat for that.

what wood are you trying to seal? all your new stringers and transom should be fully tabbed and covered completly. But yes brushing epoxy resin will seel it pretty good.

The 1808 Bi-ax and 635 is exactly what I am using on my transom/stringer replacement right now and it has worked out real well so far. And the price??........WAY CHEAPER than West system.
