I re-did my dash with 1/8 and mounted the GPS and dials to it without any issues - you can use a carbon veneer and epoxy it to a current surface. Yes, you can get red or blue threads and it gives of that particular color sheen. Also, white carbon which is really silver in color.

Most of my aerospace customers use this company. Lockheed and Northrop get their stuff pre cnc routered.
Go out and buy yourself a Ryobi table router with a 1/8 cutter for $99 - mark your intended pattern and cut. Leave the protective sheen on till you are done then tear it off. Then block sand only the edge. Once complete buy some spray cans of gloss polyurathane. I like Minwax Gloss Polyurathane (floor section Home Depot) You MUST put poly on as carbon is affected by sunlight UV - it will fade if not sprayed.
The GPS and gauges are mounted to 1/8 carbon but the glovebox and stereo plates are 1/32 veneer.
