About your only option is to paint over it. It can be sanded off, but then you would need even more paint work.

If the paint looks to be in good condition it probably is, sand the existing paint, fair in adges or stripes and paint over top. Imron is an aliphatic acylic polyurethane and have good overall chemical resistance. If you had to use a stripper use a gel type stripper that contains methalynene chloride. Ths would be a last option, as the stripper may also soften and absorb into existing polyester resins of the boat, causeing softeneding of the polyester and leaching when the surface becomes hot in the summer.

Seems I've seen a mechanical gel-coat stripper, similar to a power plane (or maybe that's what they were using). I can't find the link right off hand tho.

Ah, here you go.

A quick sand, a coat of sealer and then a couple of coats of your new favorite paint and the transformation is done.
Using the gelplane is going to result in a complete gel makeover.....easier to buy a new boat.
Depending on the amount of colour you want to redo, a hand block will work great for the backyard guy....wont let you gouge the paint and will give you a nice flat sanded surface to repaint....

try a product called "Multistrip" Available at a lot of paint stores and somew hardware stores. It will not hurt the gelcoat and works on both Imron and Awlgrip

What if you just want to go down to white and not redo any graphics? After you sand it off can it just be buffed to white?
Thanks in advance.

I know ugly when I see it!

That teal and pink is some ugly chit... Even when it was popular in the early 90's I wondered what the hell manufacturers were thinking... It looked flat out hideous!

Yeah but as Reggie would say.. "I got the fastest lipstick and jade boat on the lake big boy!"
